The pursuit of Jason Garrett began Friday in Texas as Atlanta owner Arthur Blank and his entourage, which includes demoted general manager Rich McKay and assistant general manager Billy Devaney, among others, interviewed the talented Cowboys offensive coordinator in Dallas Garrett is also on the Baltimore Ravens' radar, though they also want to make a run at CBS analyst Bill Cowher. Both the Falcons and Ravens have already interviewed Colts assistant head coach Jim Caldwell.

"Everything we heard about Jim was right on the money. He's a classy guy," said one Atlanta executive.

Blank, who is conducting an unusual dual search for a new head coach and a new general manager, also met with Cowboys offensive line coach Tony Sparano, who is considered a front-runner with former Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells in Miami. Sparano, who is a northeast guy like Parcells, called the plays last season for the Cowboys.

No one is quite sure what Garrett's answer is going to be if he is offered the job in Atlanta. Many NFL people believe Garrett, who is only 42, may bide his time waiting on possibly landing the Dallas job in the future or the New York Giants job, should it ever become available. Garrett is from New Jersey and he and his brothers, all NFL coaches, played at Princeton.

Blank also plans to interview Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and Jacksonville defensive coordinator Mike Smith.

Romeo Crennel has denied any interest in the vacant Miami job, although his name has been linked to the position for two weeks. And why would the Browns allow Crennel to leave? If they could get Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, who is one of Browns GM Phil Savage's closest friends.

Savage, remember, didn't hire Crennel. Owner Randy Lerner did while promising Savage that if Crennel failed, he could hire the next Cleveland coach. Well, Crennel has turned things around in Cleveland with a 10-win season, although his team did miss the playoffs.

Garrett would be absoutely nuts to take a job in Atlanta. That franchise is in dire straits and Garrett just does not seem to have the personality to coach a team like that. The Cowboys or Giants, yes...the Falcons, no.

However, money talks and bullcrap walks, so they say...

It would hurt more to see him go to NY :(

I agree with that! But, if the Cowboys are the Cowboys? They, too, will overcome...

It's simple how we can keep both Sporano and Garrett. All Jerry Jones needs to do is set a rule that if another team hires either of them away, then it has to take Bobby Carpenter off our hands and exchnage him and our lost coach for a first round pick. If we just offered a first round pick for a caoch then teams may still be interested, but forcing Carp (or should I say, CRAP) on them, that surely would scare them away.

If any of you happen to become a big time athlete or coach, here are some words of wisdom: ALWAYS LISTEN TO THE OFFER!

That's all this is. These people are not idiots. They have agents that train them well. You interview to gain leverage with your own company in addition to improving your interviewing skills and learning about compensation packages etc. It's good experience.

Why do you think Parcells interviewed for the Falcons's job? Parcells would interview for the Cardinals head coaching job if it were available.

Hell yes! You would be a fool to not do so...;)

However, there is that saying about, "the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence"...

(well, unless you are Ricky Williams)...
