Really Fox, he was mediocre in Carolina, lucked out with Peyton in Denver, he will be horrible in Chicago. I know why Carroll is that high but I think it is more his assistants, than it is him. I wonder how well he will do when his assistants start getting promotions through out the league.

And Rod/Linehan had nothing to do with with last year's success? I would argue they were the primary culprit for the turnaround over anything else. Our offense resembled nothing from the prior 4 seasons;)

There aren't 10 coaches that did a better job than Garrett did last year. There are still some hurdles he needs to clear. He needs to have more postseason success or he will be back squarely on the hot seat. He's got a good DC and OC. He need not get in the way or micro manage. Just be a CEO type coach that delegates and leads the entire team.

1-4 in "big" games? So Seattle wasn't a big game, or 4-0 in December? He has had us in big games that we have won before. He had to rebuild the entire team only having a few players like Romo and Witten that he kept. He got rid of over priced vets and built through the draft. He took over a 1-7 team and went 5-3. While I agree he needs to prove more to dismiss what he has already done is foolish. Changing coordinators and schemes all in the process.

Garrett has built this team to succeed and contend for many years and I expect a successful season this year

The issue, with the term "big games" is that it is completely subjective. The author can define it any way they please.

Jason Garrett is the top coach in the NFL.........for here.

This isn't a typical job. The fact that he has Jerry's ear and confidence, and that he has a small enough ego to manage Jerry's involvement with style and grace, makes him the perfect guy for this NFL job.

How he got Jerry to cut loose on so many veterans and start drafting offensive linemen will forever amaze me.

And Will McClay and Stephen are to part of this, too. It took all three to corral Jerry.

Coordinators should get a lot of credit, We praise Jimmy Johnson yet he did not call offense or defense his coordinators did. Norv ran the offense just as Linehan does now, Marinelli runs the defense just as Dave Wannstead and Butch Davis did under Jimmy. Fact is these guys matter but they do work under the HC and the HC is very much involved with the entire process he is not some fan standing on the sidelines

Yes, I agree with this but think back to the lambasting JG got for when he was learning on the job and making similar calls in games, that Carroll made in the SB. JG I will give a pass more since he is still in his infancy as head coach and still has many chapters to be written before he is categorized with the Mularkeys, or Tomlins, or Reids, he could also end up being Norv, or Dave, or Del Rio, or Campo. Carroll has a good resume, a bunch of NFL experience no way should he have let that play happen.

These top 10 lists are so silly. There are lots of good HCs in the NFL. I think Jason's a pretty good one who's gotten better gradually as he's figured out the job. Like I say with QBs, he's good enough to win with, so that's all I care about.

Fox got a team to the Superbowl -- no small feat.

I find it hard to objectively rank Garrett ahead of Fox at this point.

He only has 1 playoff win, and if you count the end of season win and in games , he is 1-4 in big games
Only 1 winning season.
this year will let us know more about his HC abilitys.

LOL at claiming Garrett is 1-4 in "big games".

How people choose to rank coaches it a matter of personal opinion. it is like the debate over who the best QB's to play the game, who is the best boxer ever. It boils down to peoples own personal view. As for me I think Jason has put a plan in place with what he wants and expects from his players and the type of football players he wants, this does not mean saints it means guys who will put forth great effort to win and to be good teammates who will support and work together as a group not just a bunch of individuals.

I think Jason has this team pointed in the right direction but I also think this is a bench mark season for him, no one expected much from Dallas last season and they proved a lot of critics wrong. This season there will be bigger expectation and a closer look at the Cowboys and Garrett. If the team fails it will fall directly on him as it should but also believe he will be view as a top HC should they have great success.

So if Peyton had chose SF denver would still be good with Tebow or whoever else came through the door.

To change this team from the "country club" atmosphere to where it is now is a feat in it self. JG may not be the best coordinator but he is an outstanding leader.

He got there as the DC of the Giants, too, and took the Panthers to the SuperBowl. He's a really underrated coach, if anything.

lol.. he should have been fired a few years back but because Jerry likes to hold on to players and coaches for too long, he wasn't. He had a very nice rebound year last year but should we give him all the credit? The jury is just not fully out on him yet.

The same thing could be said of Garrett, though.
