Garrett Wants Playoff Loss To “Fuel The Fire” For Team’s 2017 Motivation
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2...ayoff-loss-“fuel-fire”-team’s-2017-motivation

FRISCO, Texas – Whether you’re a rookie in his playoff debut like Dak Prescott or a veteran in his sixth postseason trip like Jason Witten, last Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers had the same effect.

“It’s a terrible feeling,” Prescott said.

The Cowboys left The Star in Frisco on Monday following their final team meeting still processing the abrupt end to a remarkable season. Their head coach, Jason Garrett, reminded them the 2016 Dallas Cowboys will never be together again. Things always change, win or lose.

There’s another consistent message Garrett tells his team that’s fitting for their reluctant start to the offseason: ‘The only thing that matters is what we do now.’...

De ja vu, Garrett wants playoff loss loss to fuel fire for 2015 season. Drop a pair and challenge yourself and your coordinators. Spin master needs to go into politics.

What from that article makes you think he's not challenging himself or his staff to get better?
Read it, stick to my first post. He doesn't mention anything about himself or his staff. I take the blame for every loss
I've ever had, I come flat out and tell reporters, this loss is on me, we need to get better as a staff , blah, blah, blah, it may be speak sake but it shows that you are part of the team and not above the team. Garret has never done that. Spin master.

Finishthefight, finishthisfight, FueltheFire, Wedidntstartthefire. Stop with the slogans. New slogan same ****. Its not motivation dude. The team just needs to be better, especially in his department. I just don't think he'll ever have it. He's been "learning on the job" for sometime now and he makes the same poor clock management mistakes that cost us big games. I won't be surprised when I see fuelthefire shirts next year. The players are motivated to win. If it came down to just motivation to winning a championship we'd be there. The remember this feeling stuff isn't going to make our D better.

Maybe read it again?

"“I think every team in the National Football League comes into the season with the objective of winning the Super Bowl. If you don’t have that objective you’re probably in the wrong business. There’s one team that’s going to have that feeling; there's going to be 31 teams that don’t have that feeling; there’s going to be about just under 2,000 players who don’t have that feeling. There's going to be about 70 players who do. There's going to be about 20 coaches who have the feeling and the rest of them won’t. We’re one of the teams at this point in the season that our goals and our dreams are not going to happen this year. But we’re going to learn from the experience and we’re going to be better for the experience.”"

Did not reach goals, but did not take ownership of it. I've met this guy and my impression will not change with talk. He's got to show me.

He's got a $30MM extension and an NFL Coach of the Year award. He's probably not all that concerned with showing anybody at this point. I suspect he just wants to win.

Either way, though he explicitly sites coaching and explicitly says the goal is to get better. Probably not the best example of something to complain about here.

Garrett needs better players on defense. He has done well with no defense for 8 full seasons, IMO (throw out 2015 when he didn't have offense or defense). I will judge him when the team is more complete.

With all due respect, I disagree. I've been a football coach for a long time, I've played pool with Les Miles, had drinks with Wade Phillips, conversed at length with Nick Saban, Mack Brown and other greats. I met with Garrett for over an hour when he was the OC in Dallas, so, unless you are Garrett in disguise, I think I am more qualified to judge than you are. I'm not wearing fan blinders, I am simply sharing my opinion.

I have no beef with your opinion on Garrett, though I disagree with it and with your basis for thinking it's likely to be more qualified than my own.

I'm just saying an article where he explicitly is quoted saying the team, including coaches, should learn from the loss and get better next year is not the best evidence of your point that he's avoiding responsibility for him and his staff for the loss.

He says coaches, doesn't mention himself. One year I thought my coaches were to blame, so I fired five of them. We went 34-4 the next three years.

He has never put the blame on himself, ultimate spin master.

Publicly? He never blames anybody on the team publicly. That stuff is handled behind closed doors in Dallas. What would be accomplished by blaming anybody in front of the Dallas media?

For the record, he has publicly accepted responsibility for the team's performance personally many times. You're right that he's not big on laying blame.

Just out of curiosity, why are you more qualified than me to judge Garrett? Not being a smart*** just wondering.

He says "coaches" (he's a coach) and he says "we." You're right that he doesn't refer to himself directly by name in the third person, but then that would be weird coming from him.
