Jerry has fires many coaches and if he was going to fire him, it would have been years ago. Jerry has and is doing whatever is in his power to protect him.
He’s already called him a HC in training, openly said in 2014 they don’t want him anywhere near the offense and that Garrett will be fine in a role of ambiguity, because he deals with it well.
When Brian Stewart was here, Jerry made Wade take over the play-calling and eventually fired Stewart, but he didn’t let anybody touch Garrett. In fact, he gave him control of personnel decisions. Jerry only tightened the leash in Garrett when Romo’s new contract came around and Garrett’s 2012 was the height of his ineptitude. After 2012, Jerry fired multiple coaches, but didn’t touch Garrett.
2014 and 2016 proved to Jerry that he can just get some coordinators with Garrett as a figure/head and have success. So it was obvious that if any change was going it be made, it would be around coordinators.
