Look at who Garrett has played for in this career.

1989: HC Jim Mora
1991-1992: HC: Mike Reilly GM: Tom Landry!!!
1993: HC Jimmy Johnson OC Norv Turner
1994-1997: HC Barry Switzer OC Ernie Zampese
1998-1999: HC Chan Gailey OC Jack Reilly
2000-2002: HC Jim Fassel OC: Sean Payton
2003: HC Jim Fassell QB coach Turk Schonert
2004: (Miami) HC Dave Wannstadt OC ???
2004: (Tampa Bay) HC: John Gruden OC Bill Muir

And coached with HC Nick Saban and OCs Mike Mularkey and Scott Linehan.

I guess you could say he has a varied group of influences.

it is almost as if we've backed ourselves into a corner here -- I doubt a young HC candidate like Rivera or Ryan wants to come here and have his replacement on the staff. An older coach like Norv or Phillips would be more likely to accept that -- but with Jerry as the owner? He'd likeky pull a Tony Banks on the guy halfway through pre-season.

I'm not sure, 9ers are willing to pay Norv more money to stay and if Norv came here knowing he would be replaced in a year or 2 was it really worth him leaving a team that likes the job he is doing? I would think the same would go for Phillips. I would think both of these guys would want at least a 5year deal before taking this job and freedom to move without any problem if the are released in a year or 2.

This is odd to me. In 1989, Jim Mora was the HC for the New Orleans Saints. In 1989, I think Garrett might have still been playing in the WFL. This doesn't sound right.

Saints developmental squad in 1989. Princeton assistant coach in 1990. San Antonio Riders of the WFL in 1991 and 1992, with Landry as GM. A stint in the CFL, which I don't know anything about. Then Dallas in 1993.

I thought Reilly came onboard in 2000 as a playcaller for Campo. Gailey called his own plays, which was one of the big sticking points that led to his dismissal.

I think you might be right about Reilly. He was QB's coach in 1997 and then left the team for two years so he wasn't there with Gailey. My bad.
