Like anyone else with inexperience, Rico will be subject to development. I'm hoping he'll manage to find success. The mental aspect of playing TE is a challenging proposition for anyone, especially for someone whose experience is so limited. At best, it simply takes time to become proficient.

Given time, if he isn't able to make the adjustment there, there's a good possibility that he'd be allowed to gain weight and transition to OT. Other TEs have made such a positional switch in the past and have found great success there.

Let me simplify your play book Rico. Go up the field 5 yards, turn around, jump up and catch the ball for a first down or TD.

Make no mistake, you'll see the kid this year, at least in a limited but important role.

As far as the practice, what a shame, people on this team have dedication and emotion.

Very true -- it's just one practice whereby he's been dealt with by a coach to "push a button" and get the desired response from him. There will be many other chances for Gathers to get his act together in training camp and in preseason games. Everyone knew from the outset when Rico made the transition from basketball that such a switch would be a challenge. One misstep certainly won't end a potential career. Let's keep it real, folks!

Didn't see this posted yet, and honestly I haven't seen this reported anywhere else. If this is true, it's kinda a slippery slope for him. On one hand it shows his dedication and how bad he wants it. On the other hand it could be a sign of a lack of discipline and maturity... given his explanation of "those types of things make the coaching staff think "he still ain't got it."" I lean more towards it being a passion/dedication thing.

He seemed like a cocky, show boat type to me. Sometimes that can be great. But not when its mixed with immaturity.

Honestly, I like seeing a guy like Gathers get this frustrated at messing up a blocking assignment. It shows that he isn't just trying to be a receiving weapon, he understands if he wants to get where he wants to be he's going to have to prove he won't miss blocking assignments like this.

No idea how he'll end up panning out, but it certainly doesn't seem like hard work and dedication will be the things holding him back if he doesn't work out.

Hope he doesn't make a habit of it, but no big deal. The heat probably got the best of him. Just have to wait & see. Listening to him, though, he sounds like Dez when he first came. Not real articulate.

Let me get this straight please......

We have injured guys that can't get on the field consistently. We have guys so addicted to weed or uncaring about their professional careers they can't find the field because they would rather be high. We got guys getting hammered and driving in cars. We got dudes accused of beating up women. We got guys being suspended for PED's, But we are concerned about a guy trying to switch from basketball to football, who (by all accounts that I have seen) has apparently been pretty darn hard working and getting the attention of coaches and players alike for his effort/improvements - yet, we are concerned that he cared enough to be frustrated when screwing up on the field and showed some fire/emotion. YEP, stick a fork in that kid - he's done. Don't want any of that caring/trying stuff. That is immature. We really need to return to our roots of a few years back when we had players that are smiling and giggling and joking and asking for the jerseys of teams that just kicked the crap out of them in pro games (that mean more to kids in pee wee or high-school games), not showing any frustration or concern about getting better, while being paid millions to perform....

Ok, sarcasm rant switch off again.

You know it is the off-season when.......

I'm glad he is taking this seriously and has high expectation for himself. I would hardly call this a big deal and frankly this is the only report of him throwing a helmet. I have to say it was nice being on vacation and getting away from this place where everything that happens with the Cowboys is blown out of proportion.

I have moved myself from front seat of Gathers bandwagon. Don't get me wrong I'm still ridin. Just have few reservations after I heard Nick Eatman comments on how some players were giving him nickname "heir apparent" and not really in a flattering way. This was my fear during what I would call the greatest media blitz for player who is from practice sqaud. But I can't deny I laugh in a haunting way when I see Gathers running crossing patterns and damage he would do to DBs.

Thinking about a corner or safety trying to line up Rico makes me smile. It will be fun to see them fly 10 feet while he high steps into the endzone. Ok ok. Im getting ahead of myself.
