(12:01 AM): Ginn workout chewed over… There was an interesting debate around today following up on Ohio State WR Ted Ginn’s private workout on Wednesday. Did he help himself; or hurt himself; and whether he should have worked out at all if he wasn’t totally healthy were among the pertinent issues. In the end it appears to be something of a wash. According to his father, Ginn, who has been rehabbing a foot injury since early January, is still only about 75-80% healthy, was timed in the 4.40 range running three 40s at his workout at Columbus. That was something of a disappointing time, though, for who was hoping to time under 4.30. Still, the reaction of more than one team appears to have been that running a 4.40 when he clearly wasn’t 100% was impressive in its own right. In fact, all 32 teams in the league know that Ginn is fast; indeed, he may be the fastest player in the 2007 draft class. What Ginn wasn’t able to do was run and cut running routes and that may hurt him in the eyes of teams that are concerned about Ginn’s lack of polish as a receiver. In fact, there were a number of teams that reportedly have politely inquired about Ginn’s potential as a CB. Ginn actually came to Ohio State as a highly-recruited defensive back and has reportedly said that he actually prefers that side of the ball. There has also been some variation in reports as to how many teams were actually represented in Columbus at Ginn’s workout. Early reports suggested that just about every team was there, however, other reports have put the number in the 15-16 range. One team that definitely was there was St. Louis. Despite the fact that the Rams had several other high-profile prospects in St. Louis for visits on Wednesday, the Rams chartered a plane and flew a full contingent to Columbus including head coach Scott Linehan, offensive coordinator Greg Olson, and receivers coach Henry Ellard, as well as VP of player personnel Tony Softli . The Rams have the 13th pick overall, about where Ginn is rated on many pre-draft value boards, and could be looking to add some fresh legs. Meanwhile, Ginn will reportedly work out privately for at least one other team – believed to be Washington - early next week. According to his father, though, Ginn is still anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months away from being able to go full out.link:greatbluenorthdraft.com

I'm not knocking your thread or the report (which is interesting) i'm just so sick of hearing about Ted Ginn.

I am not big on Ginn at #22. Second round would be fine if he dropped that far. I know he is fast and so does every team in the NFL. You don't need a stop watch for that. My concern is that he is just too unpolished for a 1st rounder.

Scouting helps in that department to determine just how much work he needs. A scout watching a game or reveiwing film may not know what routes he was supposed to run, but you can do that in a private workout. You tell him to run a 10 yard out, a 50 yard slant:D or whatever you want and evaluate that. You watch how he goes out and runs those specific routes. Does he cut hard? Does he round out his routes? You watch how he holds his hands when the ball is coming to him on those routes. You watch how fast his head turns back toward the ball. You then take that info and go back and review films and try to put the two components together. Him not having a complete combine or complete private workout may have hurt him in that respect.

If any team is considering him as a DB, then they aren't looking at the 1st round for him, either. He is small for a receiver and way small for a DB. Plus he hasn't played that much DB in college.

I don't think there is a doubt he will go in the 1st rd. The guy is a playmaker, teams had to constantly account for him at OSU and he drew a lot of coverage his way because teams did not want the 1 on 1 match up with him. I do agree he has some growing to do at WR but I do think the kid has some very good talent.

4.4. hurt.....75 percent....that is fast.

Ed Hervey...Alex Wright......Randall Williams

all fast...all suck as WR's because they had marginal ro poor WR skills

Ginn could easily end up in that category

Just how good are his hands- for a WR that really is the single most critical feature.

I saw a lot of OSU game (cheered aginst them of course) and Ginn had no problems with dropped balls. He does a good job of coming back for the ball and once he has the ball in his hands he is a major threat.

Well Ginn Jr. will find a place in the NFL that's for sure, teams are looking for the next Devon Hester type player. I would love to see those two race against each other!

:D

Ginn is a good WR.

He could be great with more experience and good coaching.

Plus he already is a Great threat on Kickoffs and Punts.

Ginn's inj could be a blessing in disguise. Had he not got hurt we wouldn't even be talking about him being there at #22.

The Cowboys could luck out and get him.

He's the type of player that the Cowboys lack. And I would love to see him on the team.

If he's there pick him.

I have felt that as they in Star Wars its our destiny, this guy is just damaged enough to land in our lap. I mean if he only gets in a few games he won't be any worse than Carpenter, gag....

If Ginn's there, he deserves consideration.

It ultimately comes down to how the draft shakes out, but he's in the mix.

Jarret might turn out to be another Mike Williams, but A. Bolden was knocked for his lack of speed and he has done pretty well. Receivers can be deceiving.
