You should know that I'm friends with Cowboy Chris in Orlando so it must be something in the water here. These guys must get hundreds of e-mails every day.

Anyhow, here's the set up. Gene wrote an article for ESPN claiming the Steelers do it right, but all the while backhanding us throughout the entire piece. His last line was...welcome to "America's Parade". Well, it usually wouldn't have bothered me, especially the America's Team stuff but I couldn't let it go, so I e-mailed him, maybe not a rant, more sarcastic than anything else but I got a reply in like 2 hours. It's not earth shattering but amusing. Thought you might enjoy it.

My E-Mail to Gene:

Yeah Gene, the Steelers, they absolutely do it right. Nobody mixed the combinations of steroids better than them. Oh, ask Mike Webster how that worked out for him.

...and ask the Seahawks how the NFL officials clinics are going?

And please, we'd all have more respect for you if you just said you hated the Cowboys. Yeah, they are a train wreck, but THE most popular train wreck. Ratings, merchandise, fans etc. The fact that you found a way to wrap an entire article around your disingenuous references to the Cowboys does little more than cement the tag, including the lame reference to "America's Parade"...that was just awful.

I understand that you're nervous...despite the Cowboys' problems, they still have the talent to win it all for a few years to come.

Don't worry though, we'll save you a seat at the parade.

Gene's Reply: (Notice he gets riled up with the CAPS)

I don't hate the Cowboys, but you can't call Dallas America's Team when YOU can't even win ONE playoff game. And, yes, they have talent. that's the point: they have talent and yet still can't win A playoff game. They couldn't even GET IN the playoffs this year. Win SOMETHING.

Glad he doesn't HATE us. He's right of course, but I couldn't let it go.

The "America's Team" title has nothing to do with winning playoff games. If that were the case, it would mean nothing more than the latest NFL champion.

How does winning a playoff game have anything to do with which team is the most popular team in America? The Cowboys are the most popular regardless of whether they win in the playoffs.

Also, you should have busted his chops about Santonio Holmes marijuana arrest.

What does winning playoff games have to do with us being "America's Team"? We were America's team when we won Super Bowls and we were America's Team when we went 1-15.

Here's another question for Gene ... why is he (and everyone else) writing about this non-playoff team? That answers the question.

Excellent point. I know the America's Team stuff is nice but it doesn't matter, we all would rather win. However.. it does seem to tweak people, so I suggest we all continue to use it until we do. :laugh2:

He sounds more like a Commanders or Eagles fan than an objective, unbiased sportswriter! Like others have stated already; the "America's Team" NICKNAME (keyword) isn't related to postseason success, it merely describes our popularity! You'd think a "big-time" sportswriter would understand that simple concept...

Haha... so many teams that weren't the Cowboys underachieved this year (as is the case every year) but it seems only the Cowboys get constantly slammed by the national media about it.

That's proof enough that we truly are America's Team.

They're too busy being angry and jealous to understand it.

What I don't get is why this is just now coming up. We were America's Team back when we had two Super Bowls and the Steelers had three. We were America's Team when the Niners passed us in Super Bowls. So having the most Super Bowls never had anything to do with it.

Someone please explain this to these nitwit writers.
