Considering how many teams attended his private workout and the fact that the Cowboys used a 6th round pick to avoid competition to sign him, I think if he shows anything, he's making the 53-man roster.

You put him on waivers and one of those 25-plus teams that watched his workout would find a place for him on their active roster.

As sorely as the Cowboys need to develop a TE with the possibilities that Gathers seems to have, I'll do cartwheels if he makes the active roster. Whether the coaches see fit to afford him a chance to develop sufficiently to allow his gameday involvement remains to be seen. Let's hope so. Realistically, it won't happen overnight -- hopefully, it'll just happen eventually.

I think if he shows any promise, he will find a way to make the 53. If he shows promise, I don't think Jerry will want to gamble about losing him to another team.

For Gathers, even if he might not be active on gamedays he would do himself great favors if he can play special teams well enough to earn his roster spot while he is learning the tight end position.

Lanky & slow of foot describes Escobar perfectly. I'm really hopeful Gathers impresses in camp. There isn't much else outside of JW to worry about.
