Does anyone know anything about one year starter at Louisville FS Gerod Holliman? Bucky Brooks at NFL.com has him as the #2 overall safety (behind Collins). He says he's a pure ballhawk FS but has issues with run support and tackling. Another report said he may be a one year wonder but put up ridiculous ballhawk numbers that reminds them of Jarius Byrd. He's not a complete player like Collins but he appears to be a ballhawk, something we haven't had since Woodson. I don't know much about him. Maybe we could try to get him with our 2nd.

He's been discussed quite a bit on CZ, I was of the same mind on him till I watched his bowl performance. Honestly, he was pretty pathetic in run support...like Mike Jenkins vs Brandon Jacobs pathetic....i.e. not even trying. After that, I was done with him.

I honestly haven't followed the Draft threads at all until after the season ended. I have been reading that, although appearing to have elite ball hawk skills, his run support and tackling is some of the worst that scouts have ever seen. You seem to think it was that bad too. My question is, if we can get him later in the draft (Bucky Brooks is the only scout I've seen who has him rated very high) would it be worth taking a chance on him? I would think that elite ball hawk skills would be more rare of a trait than tackling. Perhaps he can learn how to tackle.

Sometimes drafts analysts exaggerate when they say a guy has issues tackling, but not in this case. He really doesn't tackle well or want to tackle.

If he is a pure ballhawk FS, that is what the Boys need........Collins strength is run support and tackling----more suited for strong safety, who I do not believe is a complete player, scouting report says:

Weaknesses:
  • Can get burned in man coverage
  • Not an isolation safety on a tight end or slot receiver
  • Not a rangy safety
  • Lacks versatility to play deep free safety

Reminds me of the FS we have now.

I agree. I don't want Collins. I'm just saying that most experts consider him complete (in terms of being a run stuffing SS) and NFL ready. Everyone says Holliman's tackling us atrocious but that he has rare ball hawk skills. I think he can improve his tackling and the other safeties on the roster are strong in that area. But Holliman can be special in a few years.
