Getting ready for OTA's

To see how all the new players on defense grasp the new schemes. With all the new players and coaches.

How they all interact together to learn. And to improve. It will be a learning curve for all of them.

We will get this player looks great, that player looks great. How they are picking up things right away. The typical stuff. And there is nothing wrong with that. Need to take the coaches at their word.

It is to instill some of the basics and what is expected of them. For when they get to TC. They will be familiar with most of the playbook. So no big surprises at TC.

Will you really see that in OTA's? How long does it take veterans to learn a new system? I dont think its going to be on display for OTAs' You barely start seeing it in pre season. and pre season is mostly to see who makes the team.

You’re right

OTAs are about a few things

  • Continuing getting rookies comfortable and familiar with the NFL environment and an opportunity for new veterans to meet teammates, staff and adjust to the new facility and their local neighborhood.
  • Classroom learning of the playbook and its language
  • Basic on field walk throughs taking that knowledge outdoors
  • Individual technique training from coaches
  • Physicial conditioning
  • Team building and camaraderie (the things that zone fans despise even though all teams do it)
Actual demonstrated familiarity and competence, especially anything that a local media person would be able to recognize and communicate, won’t be on display until halfway through training camp

They instill the basics. What is expected of them. So when the get to TC. They can get right to more of the real stuff and how to execute and put it all together.
Even then it will be getting in the reps so it becomes 2nd nature.

They will keep the real stuff they do not want to show for closed practices when they break camp and get back the The Star.
