Just read it...the author fails to seriously take into account field position when considering going for it on 4th down. In this case, the Jets were on the wrong side of the field. Had they failed to convert and even if the Giants failed to move the ball an inch, they would still be in position to kick a field goal for points.

The point is that the odds favor going for it because the odds of converting fourth and inches are greater than punting and getting a stop.
