I've noticed with the Giants, what they do when they really need to, is run Odell on a shallow crossing route at full speed. There isn't a corner in the league than can stay with him. It's probably his most productive route. What do you do to stop it? I suppose you can level him with a LB since his route is within a few yards of the line of scrimmage. But I haven't seen a team have a scheme to stop it yet.

I would have Sean Lee stand right there and level the heck out of him.

And here I thought it was the twins wr to the right with Odell running a simple out pattern with a pick from the outside wr....that is their short yardage go to play and it annoys the heck out of me.

It's a man beater for sure when you're as fast as OBJ. To counter it, you have to mix up your zone looks and man looks while getting good pressure on the QB in those man looks. If he runs that route into a Lee zone, he's probably going to be in the protocol.

In the end, he's probably going to catch a couple and you just have to rally to the ball and tackle well. People forget that play he took it to the house on last match up should have been stopped for a 15-20 yard game if Wilcox(pretty sure it was him) took a better angle and made the tackle.

This is exactly how you defend that route. You put someone in his path that can light him up. You don't even have to hit him, he just needs to see that it could happen.

I have noticed several times in various Giants games over the last two seasons where OBJ took his eyes off the ball when he thought he was about to get leveled by a safety or linebacker. I think the Giants know this and they try to hit him before he gets to the middle of the field and when he does catch it toward the middle of the field, Eli tends to hit him in the gut with it rather than lead him.

No doubt ODB is dangerous once he gets the ball in his hands and Giants will run a lot of rub routs and crossing routs to get him the ball in space. I think the best bet is being physical with him at the line of scrimmage. Outside of ODB the Giants have a hard time moving the ball and with Eli throwing ints in bunches if you can control ODB the Giants offense is not that difficult to contend with

You just need one good shot at him. He has shown us already that he will fold like a lawn chair if Wilcox gets a good run at him.
