Tom Reed, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports former New York Giants LB Harry Carson is once again a finalist for the NFL Hall of Fame. Carson was so disenchanted with the selection process two years ago he took the unprecedented step of asking officials to remove his name from consideration. This year Carson is dealing with serious health issues confronting two of his children. His son, Donald, 23, was diagnosed last month with a rare blood disorder. His daughter, Aja, 26, is battling cervical cancer after giving birth to Carson's first grandchild Dec. 20. "My thoughts are someplace else," Carson said. "They are with my family. The thing with the hall has become very insignificant." Carson spent Tuesday, Jan. 31, with Donald and awaited news from Florence, S.C., where Aja was undergoing minor surgery. Carson continues to work through his family ordeal. He is the executive director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, an organization devoted to promoting the hiring of NFL minority coaches and front-office personnel.
