What is our record the last (say 5-10 years) opening at home vs a NFC East opponent in a prime time game?
Too lazy to look it up but for some reason I keep thinking it is not very good.
I think we still could struggle. First game jitters.
I think we'll score a TD per quarter, maybe 5 total (one on defense). 35-17. They'll get a touchdown in each half and add a field goal early.
Games are generally won in the trenches and both of out lines are superior to theirs. If we can rush for 140+ yards, we could win big. But I'm not predicting that. I'm worried about special teams. Big returns against us could swing the game in their favor.
I just see it as different now. I know that games past have been shootouts, but based on the direction of both of these teams, I think we're going up while they're going down and I expect the week one results to support that.
You know me, I'm judge mental by nature!
Having said that, I expect this team to get off to a flying start in week one against the Giants. If they don't, I think they're ripe for criticism of how they've handled this preseason. Have they done a great job in avoiding injuries? Absolutely they have. But if they start the season looking slow or sloppy and with a loss somehow against a team like New York, none of that health was worth it because they're unprepared.
The preseason strategy was one of confidence (some would say arrogance) in a beliefs that they have a great team and don't need to show it in the preseason. If you're doing that, you'd better be right, and you'd better be prepared. Prepared to beat a team you obviously outclass across the board.
If that doesn't happen, I think there will be plenty of criticism and it will be justified, and many fans will be worried about a suddenly huge game against the Eagles in week 2.
In the end, it's a single game in September, which is the month ruled by guys like Chip Kelly. It doesn't mean much come Christmas. That's when you want to be playing proper football.
I'll disagree with you here. I think the game against the Eagles in week two is big for deciding the division. And limping into that contest with a shocking loss in week one (which losing to the Giants would be) sets this team up to start 0-2 overall and worse yet, 0-2 in the division. And everybody knows about those 0-2 numbers and the impact they have on future success.
It won't be. The Eagles will implode, and Dallas will win 12 games. Mark my words, tie-breakers won't be needed.
Giants will blitz like crazy against us with spagnulo- think last year luke against the Commanders only this time we pull out the w

This is the type of game we should win handily if this is the team we think we are.
Burn them a few times on the blitzes and they will back off. Garrett and the staff will be prepared for this. This is why I think McFadden gets the start. To see what their Defensive game plan is to start.
Protect Romo is first priority and see what they can do to minimize the blitzes.
