What is our record the last (say 5-10 years) opening at home vs a NFC East opponent in a prime time game?
Too lazy to look it up but for some reason I keep thinking it is not very good.
Don't judge much on this game. Yes, Dallas should win, but even if by a field goal, it'll be because of things that can be quickly cleaned up. That goes for all 32 teams for the most part.
I don't judge style until October, and this year with the late start to the season, I'll judge by mid October what is really here.
For our "Home Opener" (not necessarily 1st game of season but home opener)...we are 4-2
For the actual opening game of the season being at home vs NFC east? 2-0
Are those prime time aka night games?
Good question. I went back and checked each game.
Yes...every game was either Sunday night or Monday night..
2-0 in season opening, prime time, home games vs NFC East, since 1995
We also won a really big season opening night game at New York in 2012 after they had just won the Super Bowl.
New York beat us in a painful one though in the second game of the season (but our home opener) in 2009 when we opened the new stadium.
If you include those scenarios (home opener but not season opener) in prime time...we are 4-2.
Thanks for doing the home work...I still got too many meds in me from a crappy weekend.
Hmmm...don't know why I thought we were horrid in night games to start the season.
Thanks again.
I think 3 games haunt your memories and one was not divisional:
Road Monday Night game at Washington when they returned a fumble before halftime.
New stadium opener vs the Giants
Road Jets game for 911 anniversary
Am I right?
Give me After Thanksgiving to judge. I think Dallas comes out solid. My concern is, can they turn it up a notch when the games are pushing the playoff buttons and then IN the playoffs.
As for this first game......I think Dallas overwhelms the Gints with running the ball. It'll take a few series but the OL will figure it out.....as always. Smart dudes up front. Then passing becomes pitch and catch.
JMO, of course.
Oh yeah....playing at home finally means something to this football team.
This is the type of game we should win handily if this is the team we think we are.
