Insight from a Giant fan: FACTS & OBSERVATIONS - No whining allowed

1- Injuries: Injuries are killing us. The Giants can overcome their injuries early in the game using emotion and some creative schemes, but as the game progresses teams adjust and find our weak spots. The team that beat Dallas two weeks ago wins last night.

2- Play Calling: Giants need to do a better job of getting the ball to skill players - this means Shockey and Plax. There is no way Tyree should get 5 balls thrown to him and Shockey only one.

3- ELI: Eli is a solid QB, but his inaccuracy can be a drive killer at times. Last night wasnt the first game that Eli has missed open guys. Eli must be more consistent, especially when facing good teams such as the Bears.

4- Coaching: At times it seems that the Giants either do not make certain adjustments, or at the very least it seems that teams can do a good job adjusting to the Giants. Also, how many dumb penalties does this team commit? How come the Bears can attack the QB relentlessly, yet not pick up one roughing the passer? This team is undisciplined. Period. And that is
Coaching

5- Record. The Giants are 6-3, in first place with the toughest schedule in football, and have lost to arguably the 3 best teams in football. Please dont jump off the ledge just yet.
This is not meant to be a negative or positive thread. Just some observations.

The main thing last night proved is that the Bears tend to play to the level of their competition.
And they are better than their competition, for the most part.

The Bears have great linebackers. I am sure one of the reasons Shockey got only one pass, was because he was blanketed by the LBs. ANd Plaxico is NOT a skill player. His mouth is bigger than his skill level. With that size, he should be catching everything thrown his way.

The injuries are gonna kill them....two seasons in a row it's happened to them.

Eli isn't what he's been hyped up to.

I see a nose dive coming.

As for injuries, L. Petitogout (sp?), the Giants' OT, broke his leg last night as well.

I'm assuming he's out atleast until end of the season . . . .

And I think Toomer is also out for the season.

I'm sorry but i think Eli is the most over rated
QB in the league. If we had him, this board would demand
his head.I could see him as a bus driver ok,but the Giants
got hosed with this kid.Jmho.
Btw,i think the turning point last night was the 51 yard field
goal attempt,Coughlin should have kept field position and
should have punted.

They have several games they could lose. The hard part of their schedule is now coming.

Here are the potential losses.

  • Jaguars
  • Cowboys
  • Panthers
  • Eagles
  • Saints
  • Commanders
Yeah, even Commanders as divisional games can be a killer as we saw last week

this is the beginning of the end for the giants

They are going to have a tough game next Monday night in Jacksonville.

Hopefully the Boys can find a way to start a run.

The time is right!

The Gints are still a very good team, but the injurys may cost them...we need to keep pace until we can get revenge.

Their defense is all about getting pressure...if they can not, then players like Webster will be severely exposed like he was last night.

Juke, what was their December record last year?

Do you remember?

I know it wasn't a slide the magnitude of ours..

Didn't Tiki also hurt his hand? Let's not forget that the Giants got bailed out by Moose's fumble on the one as well. I swear though, until they gave up that 3rd and 22 they were dominating the Bears. Weird game. Phillip Rivers looks so much better than ELI, and as a NC State grad I love it.

Yep...Toomer is gone.

Both starting DE's are out.

Tiki got banged up last night.

From what I recall, they actually closed pretty well last year and then got crushed by the Panthers in the playoffs.

Last Six games of the season for the Giants in 05:

L Seattle 24-21 OT
W Dallas 17-10
W Philly 26-23 OT
W KC 27-17
L Skinz 35-20
W Oak 30-21

Crushed by the Panthers in 1st rd of playoffs, 23-0.

Basically, they did struggle down the stretch IMO. They went 4-2 in there last 6 regular season wins and won two of those in OT. They beat us by 7 only. They beat a horrible KC and Oak team and then got imbarrased by Carolina.

I think they did struggle but you can probably also make the case that they played tough and won the games they had to so I guess it's all how you look at it.

the Giants are going to get all of their defensive starters back with the possible exception of Strahan but Kiwanuka has proven he can handle it.

As far as Tiki goes, if he has to miss a game, I think Brandon Jacobs can step in and fill in well enough to beat Jacksonville and Tennessee if need be.

It sounds like some of you are assuming the Giants are going to be injured all year. The guys that are out on defense can be coming back any game. And some will be back this game. And the rest will be back for Tennessee, again, with the possible exception of Strahan. But I do expect him back when the Giants host the Cowboys.

The problem with the Giants are three fold-
a) Tiki is just putting up numbers, however he is not scoring points.
b) Eli losses confidence after he makes a mistake. (Giants offense is trending down from #2, #4, #8, to #10 now)
c) Injuries, old age, no depth continue to haunt the Giants.
