Sand Diego fans remember this game?
He took you guys down - big comeback if I rember by Pats in 01 season.

October 14, 2001 Inside The Numbers: Terry Glenn
By: Staff
INSIDE THE NUMBERS -- After serving his four game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy, Patriots wide receiver Terry Glenn finally returned to action on Sunday and helped his team finish with their best offensive performance of the season. He finished the afternoon with 7-receptions for 110-yards including a touchdown, and looked faster than ever out on the football field.

One thing that everyone could certainly see was his ability to make his teammates better as well as create opportunities for them. Through the first half of play Glenn caught six of his seven passes and totaled 97-yards, while teammates Troy Brown (2-catches for 40-yards at the half) and David Patten (4-receptions for 30-yards at that point) were kept fairly quiet through two quarters of play. At halftime it was pretty obvious that San Diego made adjustments to have help on Glenn because both Brown (117-yards on 11 catches on the afternoon) and Patten (7-receptions for 73-yards on Sunday) were able to come out in the second half and put up big numbers against the Chargers defense after it was apparent San Diego made an effort to double cover him.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come.

If he is able to stay healthy, with Glenn back in the line-up the Patriots may be able to finally begin having continued success in the passing game. Both Brown and Patten have shown that in one-on-one coverage they are able to get open, and having safeties helping out on Glenn's side will also hopefully help them spread the field and give them more opportunities to make big plays.

There's no question that his presence on the field makes a difference, and Sunday's game was a key example of how much better he can make his fellow receivers, who by the way are far more talented than the likes of Tony Simmons and Shockmain Davis who lined up with him last season. Brown will also now benefit from having the speedy Patten lining up along side him, as teams can no longer commit an extra player to him like they did last season.

Sunday's big offensive performance proved that the Patriots needed something to try and jump-start their offense, and Glenn may have helped in doing just that. One game doesn't make a season, but hopefully it may have given the fans a glimpse of what New England may be able to accomplish now that they have one of their best players back on the field.

Are there even any San Diego fans browsing this forum right now? You've been doing alot of trash talking to fans that I don't think exist on this board.

On a side note, I wonder what a fan of another team thinks when they read Nors posts.

I remember that game actually. I was rooting for Glenn to play out the rest of the season, too bad he didn't get to play another game.

I don't know what they are thinking but his posts are getting me jacked up! I am very fired up already but his posts have me thinking that we can do something this year. If we're wrong, so be it but I haven't been this excited in a long while.

So on that note....

KEEP IT COMING NORS!!!!

I take them about as seriously as the Charger fans who think LT will rush for 200 yards in the first half against the Boys. ;)

J/K

at some point the j/k stops masking what you said.

Back to the football thread I posted - you obviusly missed that he shredded Sand Diego and they had to double Glenn then Brown and Patton went off. Diego may have to double Glenn or Bledsoe toasts them.

That then gets JJ, Witten more room to operate!

I'm bringin it - stop slingin it (n/k)

My, my. Somebody is testy these days.

The J/K means just kidding. A joke. Something you obviously can't deal with. I'll make sure I try not to be funny around you any more since obviously you don't have a sense of humor.

Now your post isn't exactly some in depth revelation. If SD puts 8 in the box to stop Jones, it will free up one on one coverage outside for Glenn. If Glenn burns them, it opens up things for Jones, Witten and Keyshawn underneath. No surprise there, I expect the Cowboys will gameplan around those scenarios all year.

Now an article from 2001....what does that tell us? Mike Riley was head coach. They ran a different defense with different players. Glenn was in a different offense on a different team with a different head coach. Heck, he didn't even have Bledsoe to throw to him at that point. Brady was starting by October.

I'd love to discuss football, but I'd prefer to discuss something more up to date and relevant. Hence, my *joking* reply.

Relevant is that Glenn is still that dangerous a threat.......

I saw Glenn and Packers in 2002. Bellicheck put a corner head up on him and rolled a safety over the top doubling him. Packers responded by running over Pats and Favre was sage enough to get the ball to the other receivers and won.

I saw Glenn in 2003, Bellicheck essentially did the same. Was not going to let Glenn loose. We could not run the ball and Carter threw what 4 picks? 2 to Law and it worked. Missing Galloway that night was a deal breaker for us to win.

I know an insult when I read one - its all fun and a joke. I get that.

Yeah, because as we all know, San Diego has all the same players from their vaunted 2001 defense.

The Boys need to keep us from getting an early lead. If you can do that, the game should be up for grabs.

We will miss Gates primarily in the red-zone, though perhaps not as much as people think since we've had time to prepare some alternatives. It wouldn't surprise me if we have to settle for a couple more field goals maybe than we would have has to last year. The red zone is where Gates is most dangerous.

LT is 100% healthy, and I'm looking for him to exploit some confusion in your new defense. Some Cowboys fans seem to think that's an arrogant way of thinking, but I remember how our defense looked the first three games last year. Our biggest weakness early on was stopping the RB catching passes, and being disciplined enough to stop misdirection. If the Boys have the same problems, LT could rip off some big plays.

Both teams need to be able to pass on their own terms. The first team that forces the other team into pass-only mode will likely win.

I'm not taking this game for granted at all. I always worried about intangibles, like the team being too fired up for the opening game and making early mistakes, or stupid penalties, and that sort of thing.

I think your defense will be a top-10 defense by year's end, and I think it's in our favor to face you guys now, before you've had time to gel.

Fair enough. I agree, the team that has more success passing the ball early on will most likely win. We have to limit LT on the ground, but we can't let him go crazy catching the ball either. We sometimes struggle with screen and flat passes to the backs, so that does have me a little concerned. To be honest, I like the way our corners match up with your WR's, I'm mostly concerned with LT. If you guys had Gates in, I could see the game getting away from us, especially the way we have left the middle open in the preseason. We get the advantage of playing you without Gates, you get the advantage of playing our defense before they really get a solid chemistry going. Either way, it should be a very good game.

A lot of people don't realize that starting in game 4 last year, we came out throwing in most games. Cam Cameron's one of those OC's who will script the first ten plays or so, and he'll usually script 2 passes for every run. Look for us to throw short and to the flats early and maybe take a couple shots downfield to the middle of the field. Without Gates in the game we'll definitely need to try to take some pressure off LT and open up the running game.

Yea, he's one hell of an asset...when he's healthy and on the field. Too bad though when you focus your efforts around a guy of this sort of nature, you fall eventually with him. Game 1, 2, 3, 4, and usually the rest of the first half of the season, he's great...but then the repeating course of history strikes just about every team foolish enough to stand by this guy and he goes down for the rest of the season. We've seen our offense falter 2 straight years in a row since he's been here as he goes down, are we really ready to hold our hopes on him for a 3rd?

Fool me once- shame on you.
Fool me twice- shame on me.
Fool me THREE TIMES- hahahaha, do we really even want to go there?

We are on #3, people.

I wouldn't be all too suprised if this was the direction Morgon's "agenda" quotes were heading towards instead of Crayton. Many thought Bryant should have held onto his starting postition when Glenn got here- almost seemed like an agenda was inplace to get Bills favorite beauty contest winner out onto the field. Then last year was what it was, AB on the way out and us struggling to field two simple wideouts once Glenn went down for the season (again). This year the up and coming Patrick Crayton battling Quincy Morgon for the #3 spot.......or was the talent level dictating a battle for the #2 spot only Bill's leashed puppy was too busy licking butts at #2 already- hence the "agenda" quote slinging where it really seem unjustifiable to the average spectator watching on from afar.

But bottom line, blinders will not mask the reality of Glenns injury-prone nature even as much as some of you so want it too. Odds are in favor of him going down again. And I'll be patiently waiting to see who are REAL #2 wideout really is once the imposter is benched due to injury again.

So what, he had a good game against SD. I'd rather him have 16+ average games per season at #3 then his limited 5-8 ball-busting ones in the starting lineup.

You are SO full of it.

You've only been 'fooled" once - and if it feels like more, you might want to look a bit closer to home than Terry Glenn.

Terry played a FULL 16 games in 2003. He missed the OPENING DRIVE of ONE GAMES that year because he missed ONE WEDNESDAY PRACTICE with bursitis, and Tuna's policy is if you don't practice every session during the week, you don't start.

So 'fool two' must be referring to some year he screwed your fantasy football team. :D

No need for the revisionist history...your boy AB wrote his own ticket outta here. The sulking and pouting must end sometime, tho I must admit it's freaking hilarious. "Leashed puppy", "beauty contest winner"....LMAO!!

Thanks for the laughs, once again. ;)

But get used to it...as long as Tuna's here, 'Teresita's' starting. :lmao2:
