Goal line stand

After the defense has been taking alot of grief about the game last week. I just thought I'd give them some props for that awesome stand on Washington's first drive. The Skins had like seven plays inside the five yard line. And four of them from the one. DENIED!!!!

I haven't seen that kind of determination out of the front line in years. Ferguson could not be moved. A true thing of beauty.

I was truly impressed by that stand. If we could see that kind of dertermination an entire game, each week, we'd be pitching shut outs every week.

Amazing, the Boys and the deadskins knew what other was going to do and Dallas come out on top, at least in that series. If we could've some how managed to win the game that would have been the best game so far.

I hate it when we play horrible defense and give up 17 points. That's really tough to swallow.

Like a blown safety assignment that allowed Pprtis to scamper 38 yards untouched for a touchdown.
Like a 48 yard PI penalty that led to a score.
Like Anthony Henry dropping 2 interceptions.
Like Roy Williams allowing an interception to go right through his hands and hit his facemask.
Like the defense applying absolutely no pressure to Brunell.

Like Roy Williams allowing an interception to go right through his hands and hit his facemask.
Like the defense applying absolutely no pressure to Brunell.

The safety was blocked on the running TD, and at least Henry and Roy diagnosed the plays and were in position to break up the passes in the first place. 3.7ypc to Clinton Portis, 183 yards passing and giving up 20 points on the road is not playing horribly on defense.

We lost that game on penalties and by an inability to make enough plays on offense and special teams.

The defense wasn't even on the field for the last three points. The defense allowed 17 points, and three of those came on a drive that started at our 45.

After the first drive, when we stopped them at the goal line, the Commanders had only two more drives that went more than 41 yards -- including penalties. That's not horrible defense, either.

The fact is, we played good defense except for a few breakdowns -- a couple of penalties and a couple of big plays. Unfortunately, those and a blocked field goal to set up the winning field goal were enough to beat us.

Myself I don't think the defense is as bad as some try to portray. Too many seem to put all emphasis on pass rush and while I do think that is important and something we need to improve on I will say there is more to defense than throwing blitzing at the offense.
