Good and bad decisions made this year

The Micah trade is so complicated on many levels. If you draft a DE with your or GB’s 1st rounder and he consistently goes to the pro bowl, you effectively got a pro bowl DE and a pro bowl DT for Micah. But the if they don’t get the defense to where it was in 2021-2023, was that enough?

Or if you spend your free money and facelift the entire D with above average players, did you get enough for a future hall of famer? What if the D is a lot better?

Micah is extraordinarily valuable to an already good D like Quinn had in Dallas or what they have in Green Bay. He has way less value to a D like Dallas has where teams can just avoid Micah and crash other areas. Even if the draft picks bust, “well we got a ton of cap space too.” And if the picks are solid and Quinnen plays 6 years for the Cowboys, “yeah but HoFer > some pro bowlers.”

Unless Micah has a career ending injury or goes to prison for importing illegal amounts of Japanese stinky tofu, I don’t believe there will be a clear answer to this anytime in the next 5 years. But it won’t stop posters constantly stamping it confirmed one side or the other every week until the end of time.
its so simple, fans dont want to accept the reality of it. Fantasy and mis conceptions are more fun. The reality is both sides won. Ive made my previous statements known so the Cowboys win on that and Micah wins because he goes to a franchise that wants to win.

The debate is so done its stupid to drag it up. its as dumb as thinking players dont age. holding on to aging players makes sense, anyone still debating this thinks players in their 40s are good for teams.

Personally, I don’t ever want to go back to the defenses of 2021-2023. I hated those defenses. Yes, the pass rush was awesome with Parsons, and yes, when we played with a lead against lesser teams, that pass rush cruised to victory, but where were the wins against good teams or in the playoffs. Those defenses never could stop the run, getting embarrassed by the good teams that simply ran the ball down our throats until we put 8 in the box, and then killed us through the air.

Yes, we need to find better LBs and generate more pass rush, but we are so much better now against the run, even without long speed garbage LBs. If Jerry had invested in good NFL DTs while Parsons was on his rookie deal, things may have gone very differently, but by the time he got tired of watching the good teams and some crappy ones embarrass us with the run game, it was too late.

I like where this defense is headed. But we need real LBs and health in the secondary.

  • Hiring Brian Schottenheimer. He deserves a chance to prove himself. It’s still too early to decide. But in a league where there is no cap on what you pay coaches we hire another unproven guy to lead this team? Like Gailey, Campo, and Garrett before him. Hope he works out. We will see.
Shut up w this nonsense

Good points except the Mingo trade. On hindsight, yes not good. However the way you wrote it, for being a 4th round pick. You expected a starting WR. As you said we only got a back up WR.

What do you expect from a 4th round pick. It was a gamble either way. They could have taken a player at any position and be the same, a back up. Or not even on the 53.

Look at Tolbert. A 3rd round pick, but Flournoy a 6th round pick is far better.
And the Pickens trade was going to make him obsolete to a degree anyway

Both sides won? Green Bay has one of the best teams in football. We're going to miss the playoffs. We only have this year to currently evaluate the trade.

ok well first, welcome to the Cowboys, you must be new. Cowboys dont win anymore. We keep it mediocre, our fans prefer it that way and thats what Jerry wants. For more, see the past 30 years. our fans are bar fans, they go to the bar, they high five if we win, they "oh shucks" if we dont, and do some of the lifting for Jerry, the sunshine fans we have around here.

Jerry turned the Dallas Cowboys football team into the Dallas Empire. The stadium makes money all year around. Just enough talk from the sports shows to keep the name in everyones mouths and Jerry pulls a few stunts during the year. Like this year, a few trades what are meaningless in the long run and he weakened our draft capital for next year. Dallas stays in the media, just enough and Jerry has the sunshine boys fill the online stuff.

Jerry had two options, he picked the winner. Pay Parsons and lose, or dont pay Parsons and loser cheaper. We re still going to lose, GB has a chance at the play offs, more than what Jerry wants.

Excellent post and you make many good points. This is why the "Jerry really wants to win" narrative is such folly and we have 30 seasons of evidence. I really wish Jerry had bought the Eagles instead.
People should really be embarrassed to say it, that Jerry wants to win. It's just not true, he doesn't care.

Very good write out, extending players contracts that we may have waited on, that's a big one for me. Ferg and Bland hmmm
If you notice many of the contracts we hand out are bad. We hand out contracts based on past performance and then when the player gets paid it’s usually downhill from there.

I have zero doubt that if we had extended Parsons it would have been a bad contract.
