Good job Jerry, the truth of it

Dallas was ill prepared for the Greenbay game. They also went away from what got them there. Tried to get cute. They were out coached in that game.
I believe that is largely due to being rusted from the long break they had. They should have played that last week versus Philly to win. That would have continued their momentum into the playoffs.

Norv Turner was Jason Garrett's coach when he was Troy Aikman's backup. I think Norv would work out so well working now under JG. Linehan makes Garrett a better coach as the article pointed out.
Its very rare that an assistant makes his Supervisor a better one. Usually, its the other way around!! Anyway, l was always very fond of Norv's abilities.

There's no doubt Linehan has helped Garrett and the Cowboys. That's what OCs are supposed to do, right? The HC and all the coordinators on the staff seem to work well now, which wasn't always the case. We've got a good situation.

As far as the eyeball test goes, Linehan's play calling (at least the plays that we see getting run) is pretty clearly more interesting and innovative than Jason's plays were.

That's not to say the offense hasn't been effective the whole time under Tony (and now Dak). If you look at the points/offensive series over time, we've been in the top 10 every year under Garrett. As the OL improved and under Linehan we've been among the league's best. I'm ignoring 2015 for purposes of gauging the trends because I think most of us consider that season to be more the result of losing Romo/Bryant/Murray/Dunbar and having Weeden/Cassel and less the result of anybody's play calling.

Points/Offensive Series; (NFL rank)
2016: 2.54 (4)
2015: 1.56 (27)
2014: 2.62 (2) (Martin, Linehan)
2013: 2.25 (4) (Frederick)
2012: 2.01 (10)
2011: 2.02 (8) (Smith)

Not very subtle...but very, very true. The HC position is the clubs greatest weakness at this point. If the Cowboys are to win a SB in the coming few years, Garrett must go.

Pffffftttttt...fffttt. Ffffttt.

If we keep up the status quo, we're contending the next 3-4 years, regardless. Address the defense with the resources it needs, and our chances get better. We don't have a coaching problem in Dallas (there are better staffs out there, but ours is sufficient to win a championship). We have a pass rush problem. And now we have a coverage problem, but that's new this offseason.

There is no compensating for a team that is not prepared mentally to play when it counts...no excuse for time and time again "mistakes" regarding too many players on the field during critical situations in playoff games..bungling the clock and horrendous play calls...can never forget Romo's idiotic gamble pass to Dez against GB. Just plain stupid. Garret is an over educated politician who has no qualifications to coach an NFL football team. He should have been sacked about 5 minutrs after the 4-12 season. That was a HC that couldn't win a game on his own skills and talent.

If most of those things were true, we'd probably agree on this one. As it is, I'm glad we're going to sit back, address the defense finally, and see what happens.

I think Norv is a good coach but only when there is no conflict of personalities on the staff. He got himself fired last season.

He also got hammered for insisting on sticking with the 5 step drops with a fragile QB and a porous OL.

Norv was great for us, but his era of offensive football has come and gone. It's a new world now.

Sure. Norv was never a head coach and maybe his time has run its course. I don't know. I liked him as an OC.

He served as head coach of the Commanders, Raiders and Chargers, but I never thought he was HC material.

I think we could easily plug Norv in Linehan's spot and never miss a beat and I wouldn't be surprised at all if we were better on offense.

You mean as opposed to poor coaching?

It's not "either or". Both were contributing factors to the Cowboy's demise last season. The decision to "mail it in" week 17 was a terrible one and I do blame that on Red. Momentum is so critical to this sport. You shouldn't expect to be able to just flip a switch and turn it on when you clearly just shut it down the final week of the season. The slow start in the GB playoff game is squarely Red's fault.

Slow start, game plan, in game management, clock management, ect....ect..... All poorly done by Howdy Doody. Text book stuff we have seen from him for 10 years now.

We have a pass rush problem, and a big time head coach problem. But you are on record already as turning a complete blind eye to that fact. Heck, you think Garrett is HOF worthy. Just look at your signature.

Not sure what you're misreading in my sig, but it doesn't matter.

We don't have a coaching problem, no. We have some fans who don't know what a coaching problem looks like, but that's hardly unusual. Every team has fans who don't like the coach.
