Electronic Arts' exclusive NFL license in jeopardy?
Topic: Console Games
Sort of?

Maybe?

GamersReports is interpreting an ESPN piece about the possible NFL strike in such a manner.

The current problems in the NFL between the league and the players associateion might make the EA/NFL contract void. This is because if the union decertifies, then anti-trust rules will apply. If this happens, then EA is out of luck. Antitrust laws would be in effect and the contract would be voided.

Hell if any of this means anything to me. All I'm getting is pops and clicks. If anyone feels like explaining it, I'll be in the comments thread.

To me it's great news as I never liked one company having exclusive rights. Competition breads better products...not to mention lower prices.

Being a pc only gamer it would be bad news to me if EA lost their rights to use real players for Madden football.

Normally that would be the case. But in this case, NO ONE would be able to use real names of players so it's bad news.

I agree about one company owning the rights though, I don't like it either. But with no NFLPA there would be no company able to use real names.

Not unless they paid each player individually... don't see it happening.
