I believe the line of succession for the Turner/Zampese breed traces back to San Diego in 1981, where Zampese was an assistant to Coroyle.

One could make this tree accordingly:
Coroyle begets
Zampese who begets
Turner who coaches

here is the problem with that analogy....we were a RUNNING team. This is not a running team...this OL will never be that OL.

True....we are clearly a passing team.

We have to pass to set up the run. PS pretty much showed us that.

we werent a "running" team...we were a balanced team that ran the ball very well...seems many have the misconception we ran the ball 60% of the time or something...here's are the numbers:

1991 (first yr w/ Turner) 500 passes, 433 rushes
1992 491 passes, 500 rushes
1993 475 passes, 491 rushes
1994 (first yr w/ Zampese) 448 passes, 550 rushes
1995 494 passes, 495 rushes

thats tremendous balance, but one of the reasons our rushing attempts were high is because we got out to big leads early

I realize this thread isn't about Alvin Harper.

Having said that, in his first couple of seasons before he fell off the planet and became just another guy, Alvin Harper was bigger, stronger and faster than Michael Irvin. This is straight from Jimmy Johnson's mouth, I am not big Harper fan at all.

Now, we all know he was no where near as talented as Irvin...

actually Johnson drafted Harper with the intent of replacing Irvin with him...but Irvin erupted in his first yr under Norv Turner and the rest is history

Right, because we'll be using the same personnel, gameplans, and seeing the same defensive looks during the regular season.

Oh please.....don't be so sanctimonius.

Can you really tell me that our running game has been good the past two or three years?

Did anything really happen in PS to change your mind?

Not me....

I actually posted this exact point about Kevin Williams the other day...

We won a SB with Kevin Williams as our #2 WR.
I've got faith in the young guys.

I believe our offense will be fine, but I have to say, one other point to consider is that the '95 Cowboy offense with Kevin Williams as the #2 WR, also happened to have the most productive running back in NFL history toting the pigskin, so I don't know that the situations are comparable. :)

believe it or not...we have to pass to set up the run...if we only pass when we have to...we will never be succeusful passing the ball...Crayton will not beat one on one coverage much...but if we pass when they are expecting run, that will allow him to be effective and get the extra defender out of the box...if we think we can run on 1st and 2nd....then throw on 3rd and 4....we will be in for a long season

We certainly weren't the best rushing team in the NFL but last year were averaged 121 for a 13th ranking. In 05 we were ranked 13th again with 116.3. Not world beating numbers but i'd say we were a pretty decent rushing team last season. We were one of only 4 teams with more than 20 rushing TDs.
