Here are some Vela comments on Carpenter from his blog...
Okay Kid, It’s Showtime
By Rafael Vela
I reviewed some of
Bobby Carpenter’s play against the Cards and was impressed with his last series.
Dallas had the game in hand and was conducting a pass rushing drill, running its nickel 4-2-5 at
Matt Leinart to protect a 27-10 lead. On the first two plays, Carpenter bullrushed Cards RT
Reggie Wells. He was shut down.
On the third play, Carpenter pushed inside then spun outside Wells and broke free. He got within a step of Leinart. On the next play, he started wide then countered inside and wrapped up Leinart, who was able to shot put a pass towards the flat and just avoid a sack.
A very limited sample size. Carpenter had the benefit of a lead and was playing against a converted guard on one of the league’s weakest lines. Who knows if he has the speed and recognition skills to maintain or even approach
Greg Ellis’ play. I’ll say this on his behalf — he showed a bigger rushing repertoire in those four plays than
Demarcus Ware has shown in two years.
