Goodell: I'm amazed at how good our officials are (Read Post 75)

He’s helped them make a ton of money and seeing them through Covid and CTE were both pretty meaningful wins for the league .

I’m not thrilled with the changes to the game, but considering the job is to drive owners to consensus and increase stakeholder value, he’s been an obvious success
This^^^^

I’m not happy with all of the changes to the game as well. But that isn’t the bottom line.

I understand it is for some fans. Some fans are only interested in the game but that isn’t all the NFL represents.

And how it’s continued to grow its appeal globally and to all fringe fans.

100%. The only thing left is to figure out exactly what the point of the manipulation is.
Well I cant say for sure, just some guessing.
1. to control outcome of game for results the gambling industry wants.
2. To keep games close and exciting.
3.NY controls outcome of many ref calls, and often overturn them or confirm them bad and good lol.

there was a seemingly bad call in Buffalo playoff game about spotting the ball , which seemed wrong and they confirmed it I think. That would more likely be about controlling outcome of the game.

I think the NFL and goodell wanted two new teams in SB and thats what we have !

I believe it's #2. IMO, if gambling has anything to do w/ it, it's an agreement w/ players are possibly refs, not the NFL.

There was no way the BUFF ball spotting fiasco wasn't BS. And it was so blatantly obvious. Why? Because Taylor and Mahomey and Travis are worth a ton more than any team from BUFFY.

Y'all switch back and forth so much. Before, it was the NFL favoring the Chiefs because of Swifties. Now, the NFL wants two new teams to play for it all. So you're telling me there's a chance for the Cowboys? Lol. Just some guessing indeed.

No doubt!!!!!

NFL wanted the Chiefs, but the Chiefs paid Mahomes so now they're falling off, as to be expected.

Some manipulations going on does not mean everything is manipulated. When it got down to the final 4, none were big money teams, so I'm sure they didn't care.

only fools think no one can be corrupted
only fools think when billions are involved all is shiny and true

So what of it? Either get in the know and make bank along with them or continue to be a piker stewing about it from afar.

Marcus I didnt say either of the underlined.
All I was implying was Goodell doesnt like the same teams in it every year. That gets boring.
Which is better chiefs and eagles again, or 2 new teams? And when I say better, I mean better for sales and interest in the nfl.

I dont think they manipulated chiefs and eagles out, they just were not as good as in previous years.
Sea and NE both earned it , but they possible were helped a little by refs.

lol what does the underlined mean??
The Buf fiasco could not be because of # 2, and it was reviewed , so cant blame the refs.

Don't discount them too much. A lot of injuries. If they draft Love, their offense will right back to where it was when they were winning super bowls.

Only if they can get another good year from Chris Jones!!! Their D was a huge part of their super bowl wins.

Taylor Swift, Mahomes, and Travis Kelce are huge, and worth a ton of viewership. Sorry, thought that was obvious.

Even the replay booth got it wrong. Very weird. Just makes you think something is going on. Poor Josh.

NFL loves the Darnold story and Maye has a ton of followers/fans.

Don't know of any shenanigans, but I surely don't discount the possibility.

It's not always easy to see what they're aiming for, but they're definitely aiming.

I detected a change regarding the Chiefs and officiating after Joe Mixon called out the league and the referees for that KC-Hou playoff game last season.

The refereeing that KC saw throughout the 2024 season was suspicious at best, they won a lot of close games that seemingly had late calls go their way.

Mixon dared calling them out and was fined, but what many don't know was that the fine was later rescinded. 2025 saw, in my mind, less favoritism being displayed for any team.

Honestly although there were still a lot of issues in 2025 i thought the refereeing was the fairest i've seen across the board in quite some time.

Keep in mind that the officials contracts end soon and the NFL is pushing for an even greater incentive based rewards system for referees going forward.

Damn, I didn't know Roger has a burner account right here on this very site.

I like the Darnold story, been rooting for him even more since Minn dumped him. He has played good this year.
NE this year is a bit of a Cinderella story, I rooted for them as well.
Now that they are playing each other , I cant root for either of them, I like both equally, so will watch and just say may the best team win.

I hope refs dont ruin the game with bad calls. And I hope it is close game.
I dont think the nfl would favor either team , but the betting industry might need one of them to win or beat the spread, score over or under etc.
