how can he make no mention of Spencer? It's impossible to grade a draft THE DAY AFTER. what if Marten and Free become pro bowlers and Spencer is rookie of the year? Lets see him grade us then.

I dont see how someone could possibly give the Cowboys the lowest grade of any team for what happened this weekend

Goose's anti-Cowboy bias is ringing through again

I don't know about that. I'm sure that he took his rankings and compared it to what the Cowboys did. I'm sure that passing on Quinn is what will cost the Cowboys draft grades to suck from those giving them low marks.

denver D
NE D
chargers D
washington D

apart from washington, which had no draft, that's not exactly bad company to keep.

Well, this was certainly disappointing, but not unexpected in a way. He's weighing each team's pick grades against the final value grades (or slots) of the players on his board. Trades probably work against each team (Spencer unmentioned..?). Reaches certainly do (Stanback & Folk picks..?). I disagree with his grade, but at least it'll have a positive effect for others.

Goose always bases his grades on value according to his rankings. When teams reach, he grades them down. Dallas failed to select Quinn....selected Spencer ahead of his ranking and selected a project in Stanback. The only picks Gosselin liked were the OL. I think we'll hear some more of the same from other writers for a while.

Gosselin's idiotic draft grades are based on a flawed formula -- he simply takes the average rating of all of the players you select, then converts that to a letter grade. He doesn't take into account where the picks that you have are and the comparative value that you get out of those picks. So if you have very few first-day picks and lots of second-day picks, you're going to get a low grade. And he doesn't take into account trading for future draft picks, either.

Consider the source. The DMN is probably the most anti-Cowboys rag around.

Who cares what they think.

The other point is that these draft "experts" make their living by projecting the draft. When things don't go the way they think they should they give it a bad grade. How could they say that a team didn't do what they predicted yet did a great job?

The only thing that matters is whether or not we got good value with our picks and I think we did. Adding Cleveland's 1st rounder next year makes it even better.

Spencer is a good player and fills a definite need for a passrusher. The rest are for depth, particularly the O-Line and we got some very good value there.

We didn't go into this draft with any starting positions open so other than Spencer, we took guys who could develop into starters over time.

I wonder what high marks he gave us when parcells was selecting Rogers and Peterman, among others.

Here is the text...

"The Cowboys picked up an extra first-rounder in 2008, but that didn't help them in this draft. Marten and Free are blue-collar blockers and those were two of the better picks. Stanback is coming off a foot injury. Grade D."

Next year....

What about our #1 pick? no mention? Also, if you base all your decisions by the numbers otherwise you'd be giving out Bs to Miami and Ds to New England.

By his theory we should have an A in stone for next years draft (barring unfortunate incident). I can just sit back and enjoy that...

By the numbers he might be right. If he gave all the players rankings and then added up all that ranking and put them in a grading scale we might have gotten a D. But does that mean teams with more picks get better grades? Its just silly to me. He cant grade this draft class until 2 to 3 years from now.

Spencer was a decent pick. But the best part about this draft is getting a possible high #1 next year.

Goose isn't far off. This draft gets a C at best. I can see why some might rate it a D.

Exactly. It is purely math based. How ******** is that?
