Dallas B
The Cowboys were cruising along with a great draft until reaching for LB Walden in the sixth. RB Choice in the fourth and CB Scandrick in the fifth were superb second-day selections. RB Jones will be a boon to the special teams.

At first glance, looks to be about the fifth-best grade he doled out.

I dont' get why he has a problem with the Walden pick. He, by his own confession, only knows about the top 100 or so prospects, so he's really only qualified to comment on those other picks. In the 6th round, pretty much all of those top 100 guys were gone, I don't understand how he has opinion one way or the other.

A great draft is downgraded to a "B" by a 6th round pick? How could it be that big of a reach in the 6th round. Maybe if they draft one of us on this message board it would a big enough reach but come on.

He seems to place too much stock on 5th 6th and 7th round picks in those grades when in reality, only 5% of those picks will turn into quality players

B/c nobody else on earth was gonna draft him, and we coulda taken a 6'2" 220 lb 4.35 40 safety from ASU and signed walden as a FA...

as much as i dislike goose, i am with him on this one. there were plenty of higher rated players around at top of round 6. why did the cowboys took this erik walden? if they want walden that bad, then trade down from top of the 6th round. wouldn't we be better off with a marcus monk or even that big nose tackle rubin? in fact, i have no doubt that walden would be available as a free agent. offer the dude 30k as a free agent, if we want him that bad.

I don't know why we took that guy in the TOP of the 6th either.

We could have traded down if he was the one we liked.

From his own words only the patriots called him prior to being picked and that was to say they would sign him as an UDRFA.

So we could have traded down or stuck there and took one of these players instead...

John Sullivan C Notre Dame
Ahtyba Rubin NT Iowa State

Both would have filled a need of depth or at least given a chance to fill need of depth.

Wasn't someone trying to sell John Sullivan as a first round pick a couple weeks back?

If they were I must have missed it as I don't remember ever hearing of someone saying a C was a 1st round pick in this years draft.

I'll take the B but honestly I doubt he factored getting the 3rd and 4th next year which makes my grade an A.

That is a great point you make---this guy was way past 100

I didn't understand the Walden pick either... But, I remember the Cowboys blowing a late day selection on a kid from Emporia State who Ourlads had ranked as a "1.00"-- Leon Lett.

Not saying this kid will even make the team, but when it comes to the 6th round, taking a flyer isn't the worse crime in the world.

He stated as much when talking with Norm during the draft coverage. He does not include future picks, only the picks made.

His grades later on almost always change. I don't see how we could be lower than a B. Despite not going for Mendenhall (obviously I ain't going to forget this for awhile), I would say the grade would be an A-.

Pretty much my thoughts on it. A 6th is a reach? Anything from 5th rd down is pretty much a project.
