on my way up to celtic park for the football. got fined 40 quid (just over 60 dollar) for drinking in the street. ok i know its against the law but realistically do they not have proper crimes to chase up rather than filling their paperwork criteria with someone having a bottle of beer. apart from anything else if i'd been left to drink it the bottle would have gone in the bin but the police forced me to leave it lying in the middle of the pavement where its liable to get smashed and cut someone. still absolutely raging!

I always love the...I know it is against the law...BUT...mentality.

You want to break the law, don't complain about it when you get busted.

You knew it was against the law and made a choice, now you had to live with the choice.

Not trying to be a turd but personal responsibility for one's actions don't seem to register to a number of people these days.

fair enough, i kind of agree with you to be honest. but its such a pathetic law in my opinion. i didn't agree with it before and i don't now. in saying that its a choice between paying 40 pounds or getting a criminal record so obviously you just bite your lip and pay the fine. would still rather my police were out trying to prevent or solve real crimes rather than fundraising with stupid fines.

Had you not been standing there breaking the law right out in the open, the police would have been busy with more serious criminals. In other words you were the hindrance to more effective law enforcement.

Lets say a man breaks into your home and gets caught. He tells his friends and the police; "I had no intentions of hurting anyone, I just wanted daschoo's TV, I am a non violent robber." He could easily say; "why are the police bothering me? Why are they not out chasing violent criminals who are the real threat to society?"

i think its a bit of a stretch to compare drinking a beer to breaking into a house and stealing a tv

I wasn't comparing public drinking to theft. That was an analogy to show you that if everyone adopted the same attitude toward their personal brand of crime how quickly society would fall apart and how ludicrous it would appear to those standing on the sidelines watching.

love the way you seem to have me down as having my own brand of crime :D
at the end of the day i got a ticket and will pay it but i think its absolutely ludicrous that you get fined for having a beer. its not even illegal nationwide its simply a city by-law. yes i shouldn't have been drinking a beer but i still disagree with that particular by-law

Just to be clear I think that law is lame as well. I could see public intoxication but just having a beer in public is something different. However the law is the law and if you choose to break it you face the consequences...well some pay.

Question: Was someone breaking in a house and stealing a tv right next to you?

Well, the police officer only saw one crime being committed, so he did his job. I'm sure if someone was breaking into the house next to you, he wouldn't have tackled you first. :laugh2:

You should see all the drunks that ride the trains home on the weekends. :laugh2: They allow you to drink on the trains, which I think is a good thing for the most part. I enjoy a beer sometimes on the way home from the city, but you get those 20 somethings (or older if they are coming from a Yankee game) that are loud and obnoxious and I would love nothing more than to see some police officer tase just for the fun of it!

:laugh2:

You should organize a protest with your buddies, just get a bunch of people together get to the police station and sit outside drinking.

Take pics and post it here.
