I am hoping that all of these injuries to our best cornerbacks is driving home the point to JJ that we have to go CB with the top pick next year. All I've heard since TNew has been out is how his presence is the most important in the defense. Henry is going on his third year with the Cowboys, and once again will not go a full year healthy. We desperately need a quality CB on this team that we can count on to come in, or to start, and have Henry available to come in.
I'm figuring that the Browns, even with their improved offense, still have a terrible defense, and will hand us a pick no lower than #8. I'm praying that at that pick, Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio St., will still be waiting.
He is the surest thing to a shut-down corner in the 2008 draft, if he comes out. My thinking is that he will win the Thorpe award for best DB in college football, and Ohio St. will play in another prominent Bowl game. That should be enough college success for the 6-1, 210 Jr. from Piscataway, NJ to decide to turn pro. Not only does he have the skills to stay with every WR he's faced, he also has the speed, (4.3 in the 40). Imagine having a CB the size of Henry & the speed of Newman! With Jenkins on board, it won't hurt nearly as much if one of our top 2 goes down, and with Henry nearing 30, we're going to need to fill his spot soon, or at least have a much better player in the slot.
Any way you swing it, Jones, Reeves, Ball, & company aren't close to the pedigree of a Malcolm Jenkins. Plus, wouldn't it be nice for a change to have a quality player in the secondary without breaking the bank to get him?
