Gotta Sign Oglesby

We have only 4 CBs and only one (who kept getting burned) on the PS. That cannot last!

Problem is, there's really nobody else out there. Except Oglesby. He knows the system. He played well last year. Hopefully, we never need him. But he's our only option.

so, we sign him after week 1 when his salary is not guaranteed. Who gets cut?

What other option is there?

I think we will sign a CB after week 1.

I hope for Chris McAllister (pure homer pick) but Oglesby makes sense.

Oglesby isn't vested, so they could sign him now without it being guaranteed.

I agree, the roster will change a little bit after the first game. At least one OL will be gone. I think Oglesby is a good chance.

I thought we were going to sign Oglesby, but we signed White.

What determines when a player is considered a veteran where their salary is guaranteed, if signed before week one?

They have to have accrued four seasons already.(the same as being a UFA) Oglesby has played in four years but the first one was for only 3 games which isn't enough to be counted. So he only has 3 years which also made him a restricted free agent with Baltimore this year.

I'm worried Jerry thinks he has Pacman in his back pocket and if there is an injury, the circus comes back to town

I need to check snopes to see if the urban legend of Evan Oglesby is true. BRB...

that is what most likely will happen, so dont worry about cowboys not having a proven backup cb, the cowboys will most likely sign a mcallister, or r w mcquarters, after first week.

See in other words if they sign a vet cb before first game, they have to give him a guaranteed salary.

after week 1, they dont have too. so dont get in an uproar, or sweat it, most likely the cowboys will make several moves after week 1 or 2,
sign a vet cb
sign a vet offensive linemen, and release proctor

McQuarters is a pretty good punt returner. How good is he at CB?

he doesnt have too much left as a cb, same for being a punt returner to a degree, but McQuarters is a ton better than crayton.

I would think it's a no-brainer unless they have someone else in mind like McAlister.

Oglesby would be a good pickup. Never understood why they let him go in the first place.

Vesting has nothing to do with it. If you're on the roster opening day your year is guaranteed.

If I remember the problem with Oglesby, it's speed.

He's got quickness and anticipation. I remember he did great in red-zone defense - knows how to pass defend, made some great plays defending fades, and if I remember right he picked off at least one pass in preseason, maybe forced a fumble too ... but I think he has trouble keeping up with speed receivers.

I'd rather take my chances wioth Crayton, no since in wasting a roster spot on a washed up DB who doesnt offer much in the return game either.

McQuarters for his career averages only 8.9 yds per punt return. He does have 3 tds, but hasnt had one in 5 yrs. Last yr he averaged about 6.5 yds per punt return. Crayton, who everyone continues to hate on averaged 9.5 yds per return last yr, 9.1 in 2007 and 8.4 yds pre punr return for his career.

So no, he isnt a ton better than Crayton. And at this point, Caryaton is really a "ton" better than he is. Crayton also looked good at this in preseason, as did Newman.
