5 Reasons why the Giants Will Repeat
posted by simo5656 : 5:34 pm
1. Continuity- despite the media frenzy that the giants have lost key players to free agency, some absurdly mentioned names like mitchell, wilson, the giants bring continuity back at the most important position. Namely, the offensive line. Now entering their third, and for some, fourth full year together, the giants should be able to keep down penalites, limit turnovers(cause of lack of pressure) and wear down a team with the combination of this powerful and synchornous line and Jacobs. In fact, the giants were a better 4th quarter team then their opponents last year,(Pats, cowboys playoff game, packers, bucs, bears etc) precisely because their line wore out the other teams more then theirs did our defesive line. Defenseivley, despite losing strahan and Osi, the players returning will also develop further continutiy. Kiwianuka, even as lb, still played with the same players and also was used as de in numerous spots. In short, despite the fact that Strahahn and Osi will be tough to replace, the giants defensive ends are still among the top 5 combo in the game. One more year of grasping Spags defense will only increase the defenses handle of an effective system.
2. Quarterback- only one other quarterback in super bowl histroy brought their team on a final drive to score a touchdown in the 4th quarter to win the super bowl:Joe Montana. Though Eli's no Joe, the fact remains that when a quarterback takes a team to the super bowl on aruguably the hardest road to get there ever taken by a team, we can deduce our quarterback is a winner. Furthermore, winning is a quality that is quite differnt from a quarterback with great statisitics. Peyton took three times to beat the pats in the playoffs, eli once. One factor that has been cosntistent in Eli's game since the beginging his career is his ability to take the giants on a two minujte drill when the pressure mounts. Whereas Romo will put up better numbers then Eli, who would you want down 4 in the 4th quarter with 2 minutes to go. I take Eli every day of the week and would, despite the fact that I'll take critiicm for this, take him ovver his brother as well(in that repsect) Eli is a winner, an unteachable quality.
3. The three horsemen- No team in the leaugue has a deeper or better compliment of backs in the league. The Giants have both speed and power. The ability to keep these backs fresh will only add to the giants ability to wear down teams and win in the 4th quarter. Furthermore, with a deeper recieving corps, and an a stout line, teams will put 8 men in the box at the passing games expense.
4. The Giants Will win the division- The giants, having already proven to be a great road team, will win more home games this year then they will loose. The determantive factor of which team will win the division will be road records. The Giants, this year, with a budding star quarterback, will overtake the far overrated cowboys with an improved pass defense which I beleive will be able to keep the cowboys pass more at bay. The giants did not get pass rush on the cowboys last year, but rather lost to them becuase their pass defense got beat on numerous third downs. This year, their secondary will hold up since it is deeper, more experieinced, and has added the beast of phillips.
5. Ball Control- the Giants are built as a playoff team. Run, play action, a solid defense, great punter. These intabilgles have never changed since the beginging of football, because, simply the win. This strategy ulitmately got them through the playoffs, hleped keep the pats off the field early in last years super bowl.(a far underated fact of the super bowl in my opionion) SO long as the giants stick to the run, and rune effectively, as they will with three maybe 4 capapble backs, they will dictacte the tempo of the game to their strenth. Just get the cowoboys in giants stadium in late january, and they will return to the big game. The NFC is weak, and the gianst simply need to get that bye in the first round. Get the bye and home game, and I'll take Eli over any other(cept Brady) in a playoff game to manange the game and lead them to victory. The playoff run last year couldn't have been scripted to be any harder. A fluke does not one by beat Romo, Favre, and brady. No, the giants are not a fluke, but rather a budding dynasty, one with 12 picks last year, a sound roster strategy, and a super bowl movp quarterback. Take note of this essay, for whent he Giants finally win in Febuary, these 5 reasons will be why.
P.S. The cowboys had their chance last year, and I have a gut feeling that Romo is going down with an injury this year. GO Big Blue!!!!!
