With the first quarter of the season in the books, let's have some fun. It is time for us fans to give our grades for the 3 phases of the game and why we graded as we did.

Offense = ( A ) Let's be honest with the Cowboys losing 2 QB's to injury before the season started and the way last year unfolded with the backup QB situation i think it is safe to say no one saw our 4th round draft choice playing at the level he is this fast. What a treat to say the least. 3 -1 (should be 4-0 ) is a great start all things considered. EE after getting over his overexcitement in week 1 has settled and is playing better each and every week. Injuries to the line and Dez have not slowed this team down one bit. We are in the top 10 in a number of offensive categories and this offense believes in the Rookie dynamic duo. We are a very difficult team to defend they should only improve as the season progresses and may even get better when Romo returns.

Defense = ( B ) Yes our Pash Rush struggles but we have held teams to under 20 PPG. Suspensions to Gregory and Lawrence put us in a hole to start the season but we get Lawrence back this week. Cowboys don't have the best defense BUT they don't have the worst either they are in the better half of the league statistically. Morris Claibornes play in the first quarter of the season has been great, he looks like the guy we thought we were getting. I like the coverage skills of Brown seems like a great find in the 6th round. Jones is playing the safety position well and should get better now that he has one position to focus on. Sean Lee has been everywhere this season dude is a beast, i cannot wait to see jaylon smith with him WOW. There is a lot of room for improvement though lets be honest and thats why i gave them a B grade. We have to generate more pressure to aid our DB's hopefully Lawrence will provide a boost here in the 2nd quarter of the season. We have to limit the big play IMO there have been far to many big plays for my liking but i understand it when a QB gets to much time to throw. Hopefully the offense continues to aid the defense with the TOP factor to keep the rested. We can Improve a lot!

Special Teams = ( B+ ) Special teams seems to be pretty solid this year so far, i haven't seen any huge returns against us and lucky whitehead while not steller has been decent. I would love to see a nice return like in pre-season. I give the B+ grade because my favorite kicker of all time Dan Bailey uncharacteristically has missed a couple Fg's. In all honesty i'm not really stressing the misses because his track record. Bailey has earned the right to miss a few, and the misses have not come back to haunt us yet. I just hope the injury is minor. If Bailey gets back on track i fully expect this grade to go up over the 2nd quarter of the season.

I tried to be very honest and objective with my grades do you agree or disagree? What are your grades for Jason Garretts favorite quote.

Offense B, the team is holding back. They use the excuses "rookies" yet Philly is letting Wentz own it. We dont let Dak throw far, we want to limit his interceptions. we want a basic offense. Than its "good job Dak , welcome back Romo" So, hes doing all this to sit the pine anyway with the privilege of seeing a rival say "hey Wentz do it baby". I think Garrett looks at our stable of RBs and says "eh screw it, has never helped me anyway" So we dont mix it up better. Garrett keeps showing us, "if you screw up, we ll give you a second chance" So if you fumble, or dont go out of bounds, dont fret, Garrett will give you another chance to do what you want to do. If you are TE, sit behind Witten, we ll keep trotting him out until we win that medal that says "heres for starting the same TE because you can" We still dont know whats going to happen with McFadden.

Defense: B, again Rod works better with less. He gets some help, but its not the best help we could have done for him. Heres to drafting RKG's baby!!!!!!!!!!! Dont worry Rod you lucky sob, we drafted a LB that is totally injured. We got you a RB, so that will help. And try to make use of the CBs we kept. The bright side, Anthony Brown but who knows how long that lasts, remember Hitchens? Tho on a note, i do like M Collins so far.

Special teams: A, the league took the fun out of it and really no big plays against us. Bailey had a hurt back, cant blame him, got it when we needed it.

3-1 your opinion means little after that, the league doesnt care, no takes away wins. They dont care how you got there, as long as you got there. What you make of it is your own doing.

Romo comes back, we miss oppurtunity with Dak for a season that goes no where and does nothing for us.

Offense = (A) Who would've thought we'd be 3-1 with a rookie QB and RB? When healthy, the O-line has made opponents look silly and players like Beasley, Butler and Morris have stepped up when needed. We improve each week on offense, controlling the clock and scoring on most drives.

Defense = (B-) They have performed better than expected, but a pass rush is so important and we practically had NONE, thus the minus sign. The play of the secondary and weekly turnovers are the reason for the B. Kudos to Mo Claiborne and Sean Lee. Lots of big tackles between the two of them.

Special Teams = (B) It's hard to grade this bunch. The returns haven't been great. Bailey is a little off (injury). Chris Jones has seen little action (good thing). And that mistake by Dunbar against SF (diving to the ground when all hed had to do was touch the ball down) reminds me off how boneheaded the Cowboys can be at times. All of these things are what kept it from being an A grade. All in all, special teams haven't hurt us in any way.
