Grade the Quinnen Williams trade

I remember hearing Broaddus and a prominent GM once say that if you see your man, go get him and deal with the financial consequences later.

This move was long overdue. This position has held the Cowboys hostage for years. Finally, the Jones boys bought a player that will permit the organization to focus on other areas of need. The farting around with DT is over!

the way to look at it is we got Clark, Williams and first for Mazi (see ya), 2nd and Parsons.

I think its a win win win, as I think the jets won too. now they have 4 first round picks and 3 2nd round picks in the next two years. they can rebuild fast, specially that their own picks is up high.
That makes it look worse. Williams right now is a top 10 player at his position. Kenny Clark is very much not. Micah is a top 5 player on defense. These returns are not good enough. At least when it was draft picks it could have been good enough but now that we know who the players are it simply is not good enough. You got a pair of worse older players, one of whom will be getting 35m in 2 years, for a top 5 defensive player.

A for me.

Dallas cannot expect much more from Clark and Osa has underperformed. DT would have been a draft need anyway and with Williams here, we eliminated the risk of drafting another Mazi.

Of all the high end trades that cost good draft picks, this is the kind I can accept. An anchor piece for the DL that you don't mind paying,,, that's what you do with anchor pieces, you pay them, so why not pick one up in FA? Sure, you don't get the cheap rookie contract for a few years, but still worth it. We've been lost in the wilderness for freaking ever and need this player, not half a dozen more Mazis and Tacos..
Well we have clearly demonstrated we don't know how to draft one.

I hate giving up any of the first round picks and the 5 years of inexpensive control they represent for a player who could potentially not be on the team in 2027 when the traded first round pick happens. I hope Dallas didn't fall in love with a name.

Gave it a big fat F.

1. Makes this season not worth watching. We're not going to start the young talent or get a look at Milton, we are DELUSIONALLY going to chase a ring with Rayne Dakota Prescott. Before trading our 1st, every loss was actually a good thing. Now, it only makes the Jets richer.
2. Now Dak will choke with Quinnon Williams on the field. That's the only difference.
3. Most importantly, he wasn't worth it. Given our next 3 games - and our complete lack of talent, 3-8-1 is not far off. This would make those high first and second round picks we just gave up for a pipe dream. Quinnon Williams is a decent guy, but here are his stats against OUR line:

2 tackles
1 assist
1 combo
1 tackle for loss

Hopefully it works out as good as it can. I give it an a After thinking about it. 1st round pick is ok. Fine with 2nd round pick. Dallas has been terrible in the 2nd round for 20+ years and Mazi is a huge bust.

Paid a Parsons price for a guy who wasn't elevating the Jets, and who's stats have been declining since his 12 sack season.

The Jets also get whichever 1st is the higher pick.

F
Wow, they get the higher first is crazy. Didn’t know that but sounds right since it’s Jerry: what an incompetent moron

It depends. If the Cowboys suck next year and it’s a top 10 pick then you gave up a real high first for a D tackle who will be 29 by then and maybe have a few years left at a high caliber. Depends who they could have drafted.

I have it an A-

The player is worth the cost

If we were a legitimate football program with an actual plan to compete for a title, this would be an A+

But we’re not. There has been such a talent drain on defense over the years that we are very, very, far from being competition that side of the ball, especially with Eberflus almost certain to return

I gave it a B. He’s not quite the player he was 3 years ago for whatever reason, and you gave up a ton for him.

But he’s still a pro bowl caliber DT, and you’ve had real trouble filling that position for over a decade. You weren’t gonna find one in the draft or free agency based on your GM’s tendencies; this is what you had to do to get one. It was a solid trade

(This grade is contingent on you extending him. There’s no way you give that up for a 2 year rental)
You make this trade with him being a cowboy for the rest of his career. I'm sure the cowboys are banking on him hard for this next couple years while dak is still here.

I gave it an A-. Its a good trade at a position we really need help. He costs half of what Parsons would cost on the cap as well.

The big hope with this is that Jerry is never going rebuild- soooooo hopefully this will springboard him to actually trying to sign legit free agents....I think we might be seeing a mentality shift with Jerry

They didn't fall in love with the name, They wanted him in the parsons trade but couldn't make a deal. But now that he had become available, we have him. Just be happy at this point that our DT spot is fixed for a while.

he is not getting younger so its time to use everything you got while your alive, hopefully they hit FA hard next year and hit on the draft.
