Grade the Quinnen Williams trade

Too much. We traded Parsons to move up from the second into the first, basically, and get Quinnen and Clarke.

I don't love it. Even if the player is a good one, we lost the better one.

That makes it look worse. Williams right now is a top 10 player at his position. Kenny Clark is very much not. Micah is a top 5 player on defense. These returns are not good enough. At least when it was draft picks it could have been good enough but now that we know who the players are it simply is not good enough. You got a pair of worse older players, one of whom will be getting 35m in 2 years, for a top 5 defensive player.
people are too precious with draft picks, man. Quinnen Williams is a top 5 DT (probably the 3rd or 4th best) that first round draft pick has a 50 50 chance of being garbage. I'll take a few certain years of a DT that has all-pros under his belt for a defense that's nearly dead last in the league over a prospect who will probably bust out any day of the week.

the better one was lost the second that jerry decided to get personal and take offense. people looking at these moves as "we traded parsons for this" are doing it the wrong way. It should be looked at as "here's what was done to salvage the situation"

C Why did Jerry only want to trade Micah to a team that could give a DT back and pay OSA 20 Mill perx4 if we had to give up two high picks for another DT?

It looks to me like we received a 1st for a 2nd and traded Edge Micah(25) for DT Williams(28). On its face, who does that deal??
** Clark is a one losing year rental and irrelevant to the future. 3 expensive DTs will be 2 next summer.

I like Williams and gave it a C as the rudderless ship has no solid plan like usual.

Plus the 35m extension he gets (you dont make that trade unless you are extending). Like in a vacuum its a fine deal but when you factor in that at the end of the day its Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams for a top 5 overall defensive player it makes this trade look worse.

Always remember that the draft is a crapshoot. Mazi and Schoonmaker are examples of the draft crapshoot folks.

Clark and Williams are proven players and we still have 2 1st's coming in April.

I love the player, but the compensation was a bit steep. Like a few have said the FRP should have been a lower pick.

Having said that, adding both Wilson and Williams to the defense and having Revel, Overshown and a few others getting healthy will add a few wins (driving our pick down) and may even add a lot of picks. If our 2nd round pick this year ends up being 50ish or so, that’s probably not an impact player the way the Cowboys throw second round picks away.

We still have BOTH FRPs in 2026 so 2027 we should be pretty competitive so that FRP might be near the bottom of the round either way.

I don’t think Parsons will stay healthy, and he’s super pricey in terms of dollars. The odds favor the Cowboys winning this trade longer term.

Yes they effectively traded their 2nd for a 1st so depending on how the Packers do it could be a 10-15 spot shift. So its Clark, Williams, and moving up 15 spots for a top 5 defensive player.

For context the Jets got for for Gardner who plays a position considered lower value AND is in the midst of his second down year in a row.

look who is doing the trading.....

Excellent point. Kenny Clark is on the downside of his career, Osa has underperformed, and Solomon Thomas is a rotational guy at this point.

Quinnen Williams is well worth the cost of what Dallas paid. I've gone over this trade in my head for hours and I still cannot find a downside to it. Draft picks are an unknown. For every Micah there is a Taco. For every Diggs in the 2nd round there's a Kelvin Joseph.

The Jets are just a snakebit, bad organization; and it permeates through everything. Williams and Gardner getting out of there is the biggest favor New York could do for their careers. I know the Cowboys are also in a downswing right now but compared to the Jets, it's a winning culture. We get mad when Dallas loses. Jets fans expect it. That's how bad it is over there.

Solid trade that gives us an elite defensive tackle. I am concerned that the last time I actually paid attention to Quinnen was when the Cowboys with 4 back up offensive linemen ran through the Jets defense.

To see how Quinnen compared to Jaelen Phillips, I pulled up both their stats. Both of these guys are talent that is being wasted with their former teams. I then looked at what it took to land them. Eagles gave up a late 3rd round pick for a player on his rookie 5th yr option. Jerry gave up a projected mid-round 1st along with a 2nd round and Mazi. Jerry also inherited a sizable contract as well. Taking this into consideration and comparing stats, Howie got the best value vs Jerry, which isn't surprising. Jerry is always late to the bargaining table, and it shows again.

I remember hearing Broaddus and a prominent GM once say that if you see your man, go get him and deal with the financial consequences later.

This move was long overdue. This position has held the Cowboys hostage for years. Finally, the Jones boys bought a player that will permit the organization to focus on other areas of need. The farting around with DT is over!
Still need a 1 tech but I get your point.

Love the player, but probably overpaid. I think we got a deal on the LB, so not terrible. A-
