C+ Drafting Backups again...

I would have picked Mendenhal! Barbers running style in the NFC East is not a good mix... Felix is a 15 carry RB. I think Mendenhals fall spooked Jerry or the scouting staff couldnt convince him to pull the triger! Ala the Ware over Spears draft.

Jenkins is a nice pick with or without Pac Man. If he can win a starting job and or force Henry to FS this grade will be a B+.

Bennett has a Big Body and if he can become a consistant Red Zone threat he will have more value... From his highlights it looks like he catches really tries to catch with his hands!

Brilliant. Mendenhall would've been a backup as well and would have seen he field much less than Jones. Here's a tip. Think before you type.

We got Him at 25 a great value there

and you have the nerve to call others idiots? :rolleyes:

I don't care if he went to Tenn, there are players that could have fit his role, I would take Chris Johnson over him anyday!

NO, we had no business taking a RB in the 1st round. so it doesnt matter to me if Jones wouldve slid to 28 or not, although truthfully i think he wouldve slid into the 2nd round. we couldve took Phillips at 28 instead.

Okay. If that's the case then it does not matter. I'm sure Felix does not slip too far but if you don't want a RB, then that's different altogether.

if both Marion Barber and Willie Parker stay healthy, Felix will have a greater impact as a rookie than Mendenhall

on NFLN, they're about to talk about the Cowboy's draft

The titans took Chris Johnson at 24, and had Felix Jones been on the board there you can bet he would have been the one taken. Those picks worked out great for us

No Jones would have been scooped up by TN who was looking for a playmaker just like we were.

1. Felix was the type of runner that Dallas had its eyes on all along. He is a complimentary back who is designed to share the load of carries. He's played against superior defenses in the SEC, and wasn't a fulltime back to where he was considered to be a main workhorse. And he fills the need at runningback. B+

2. For Mike to be available where we picked him up is unbelievavle. I didn't feel as though we gave up too much for him, because there is no way he was making it past San Diego. JJ made the right decision in my opinion. A.

3. Martellus is like a hybrid type of te who IMO will be very valuable in double tight end sets, and sort of alleviates the immediate need for another playmaker at wr. He and Witten alone should devastate the middle of the field. B.

Overall, B+

Sensible debate. Welcome to the board and I hope to see you post more often.

A+ , Jones is an A, Jenkins an A and Bennett a B+, which will become an A

A very good draft.

It's highly likely that they caught wind of TN taking a RB or they accurately sensed he would be gone. People here just don't appreciate what a good back Jones is. Yes, I think Mendenhall would be better for us over a 5 year period. But I don't know that. Jones is going to make some exciting plays for us. He will play more than you think. And the staff deserves understanding that and picking him up when they did AND coming back and getting perhaps the best CB of the draft.

I didn't like the TE pick but if they really feel he was the BPA then we'll have to wait and see what grade he makes over the next few years.

Dallas will get a A for the first two picks, maybe an A+, and was only outdone by KC for sure and maybe another team or so. I'll have to look at it better.

I'd give them an immediate B+ today and they have a chance for it to go to A+ depending on how the TE does.

Tomorrow will tell the tale. If they can find some players out of the second day then they will have taken a big step forward.

22nd Pick :: Felix Jones - B+

I believe that this pick could've been used for Mike Jenkins. Poor strategy Jerry. I just believe he hustled backwards today.

25th Pick :: Mike Jenkins - A+

Great pick but if Jerry selected him with the 22nd pick he didn't have to trade up to get Felix Jones and even if Felix Jones was selected by Steelers or Titans, Chris Johnson would have still been on the board.

61st Pick :: Martellus Bennett - A+

I believe BPA (Best Player Available) and this is the best Tight End in the draft and I believe he will contribute right away. Great replacement for Anthony Fasano. Other considerations:: Mario Manningham and Possibly a trade up for James Hardy, but o well.

Overall :: A-

I believe in order for it to have been an A+, you would change Mike Jenkins to your 22nd pick and Felix Jones to your 28th pick without losing possible valueable draft choices....

A lot of folks seem convinced that Chris Johnson could have been our man later in the draft. My argument against him is his unknowns. We all know he is fast, but I'm afraid that may be all he has. While his speed is his strength, I'm not convinced that he possesses the overall skills that Felix possesses at all. To me Felix has proven much more at a stiffer level of competition than Chris. Felix is a much safer pick.

Didn't see this Thread ..... I'll put this here

#22 F Jones - I wanted MENDENHALL, threw the remote when Jones' name was called. Now some 5 or so hours after the pick, I'm warming up to it. Which ever one was picked, they were going to be used to spell MB3. However, Jones can also be use in the return game so like I said I'm warming up to it

#28 M Jenkins - I lilke this pick. BUT there is a down side to it. Jenkins should have been picked with the #22 pick. F Jones or C Johnson would have still been there at #28 to be a backup RB/KR, and we would still have the 5th (163) and 7th (235) picks.

#61 M Bennett - Ahhh....didn't we have a 2nd round TE that we traded for a 4th round pick? Don't we have a Pro-Bowl starting TE? Don't we have a starting ILB that on hit away from being an eggplant? Didn't we get our Arses handed to us when our Pro-Bowl starting WR got hurt at the end of last season? Don't we ..... all NEVERMIND!

Day one = B

My vote

A-

Felix jones fit the cowboys needs and gave garrett a new toy. Took one of the best cb in the drafts. It was very smart by the cowboys to move up 3 spots before the Texans and Chargers. The chargers must have been pissed.

To me this was an "F", had the team not drafted Jenkins.

Jones is a third down back.....has Jones and the rest of his idiots forgotten the fact that Barber is the ONLY full-time back on the roster? Did he not realize that Mendenhall was one of the better pass catching backs in this draft and FASTER than Jones???? I can't wait to see what happens if Barber goes down....it will be fun seeing that breadstick carry the ball twenty times a game!

Bennett to me is a waste of a pick....he is backing up a Pro Bowler who is still relatively young and had they not stupidly traded Fasano for a fourth rounder they could have used the pick on an area of need...like oh I don't know.....WIDE RECEIVER????

If you trust the team to properly evaluate the talent, this may well be one of the best possible outcomes.

It's true that by Goose rankings, we are doing well. What I think folks are mad about is skipping Mendenhall. The only thing that will cure that is if Jones can be a 2-3 series per game player, not just a nickel back and return man.

Mendenhall, like Devin Thomas, only had one great year. Felix Jones has consistently performed at a high level. You don't end up with the highest career YPC in a top conference by a fluke.

Just about everyone's happy with Jenkins, and the TE pick seems more like a need than a value- WR was looking pretty good at that point, and other solid TEs on the board (like Cottam).

For Day Two, to end up with an A, I'd like to see a stout DT, a promising WR, and a Tashard Choice / Thomas Brown type RB.

It is easier to have a high ypc with limited touches especially in college football So I am not buying any stock in his high ypc when he was not the focal point of the offense or the defense

Lets grade this draft class at the end of the season. That is the only way to really to grade these guys in reality. Until they suit up and play some snaps in a real game, then I will reserve my judgement.

You realize with out moving up into the 2nd round no wr left on the board was worth wasting a 2nd round pick on. Please the wr class was weak and not one of them was worth a 1st round pick all the wr with any type of name where drafted in the 2nd round so i am not upset over the TE I am pissed we did not draft the higher ranked player on the board for RB Jenkins I was fine with
