I was reading some articles about this guy back in the day, I think he might be a real find, he was called automatica at one point, man he was pro bowl a couple of years ago, if got over his injuries, just got a feeling about this guy, I mean how many qbs we go thru before we hit on Romo....

I realize it's only practice, but it is great to hear that he's been perfect to this point! What a relief it would be to have a kicker you had faith in!

When I was at the Dallas/Washington game, I buried my eyes in my hands during our final field goal attempt. I did so, convinced that we would miss it... I just had no idea how disasterously the attempt would go.

All I want from a kicker is a guy who I don't have to hide my eyes because of when he's attempting a 35 yarder.

Gramatica has been perfect this week in practice. No I don't think Vanderjagt had that but it really doesn't matter in practice. We've tried to give him alot of work this week.
He had something in his groin I think in '03. They were trying to keep him alive for the season by using some kind of painkiller. It turns out he had some kind of hernia surgery that didn't work out. That was the '04 problem. He then had surgery again on an abductor muscle and that seems to have solved his problems. I had the advantage of knowing what he did this summer and it was indicated to me he had no problems

Up top is a recap of BP press conference. He was a good kicker with Tampa before he was injured and that became the reasons ( or excuses however you view it) for his bad performances after the SB season. If you listen to BP he is convinced that the guy is a good kicker and has a great track record in the Playoffs (92%). He also got feedback from Dungy and New England this summer and they both gave him the thumbs up.

The question should be "Why was Gramatica available if he is so good"? Well he just turned 31 and his last stint in the league was bad. Many teams already had their "guy" in place. Atlanta is the only team who went out and got an older guy. Cundiff and Suishem(sp) are two ex-cowboy kickers who are still young with good legs and solid backgrounds. They are considered first choice if a team is looking.

I think we probably got lucky to have a shot at this guy but I think playing in a windy city on the road in NY will be a challenge for him. So look for him to struggle but playing the last three out of four games in Texas Stadium and a road game in Atlanta ( A Dome Stadium) will allow us to see the real Automatica!

Go Cowboys.

You know who else was good back in the day?

You know who else was in the pro bowl?

A guy named Vanderjagt.

I wish JFE would get off the "Gramatica stinks" shtick. I hope he makes a 50 yarder....

True, however age catches up to everyone. Groin pulls for a kicker who is 34 years old is probably more difficult to recover from, I would imagine.

That was back when...this is now...

If the coach is not comfortable with Vandyshank, we will see from here on out who is more consistent...

One has a job, the other doesn't...

I'm not saying we should have kept Vanderjagt -- he drove me nuts. I'm just arguing that whatever good folks are saying about Gramatica -- well, you could say the same about Vanderjagt.

Does pointing to Gramatica's previous success really mean anything? We signed the most successful kicker in NFL history (%age-wise) and he sucked.

Let's just hope that Parcells made the right decision...that's all us fans can do...

All I know is that I thought this year whenever we lined up for a FG, I wouldn't have to worry about it being missed, but I still have my heart in my mouth, especially after the Commander debacle.

I thought, ok this is a chip shot, no way we miss, nowhere in my wildest dreams did I think the Commanders would end up winning on that play.

31 years old for a kicker is not considered old by any stretch. I have a feeling we made the right move. I feel a lot better about Gramatica after reading about the injuries and how well he kicked in Patriots camp.

I had lost absolutely all faith in Vanderjagt. The guy had been pushing everything to the right since day one of training camp. And was still doing it in November.

I don't know if Vanderjagt will ever correct this problem, but I am pretty sure it wasn't going to be this year. And evidently Parcells didn't think so either.

I completely agree with whole post.
