DALLAS COWBOYS (6 picks -- Nos. 18, 47, 80, 114, 151, 185)

Steve's take: "Dallas taking Alabama G Chance Warmack or North Carolina G Jonathan Cooper with the 18th overall pick makes sense from both a value and need standpoint... But don't be surprised to see the Cowboys go in another direction and take a different Tar Heel at No. 18. They need talent and depth at defensive tackle to make a successful transition to a base four-man front, and North Carolina DT Sylvester Williams can provide both with his quick feet and hands, agility and range."

My take: By now I'm kind of all-in on this. I think not coming out of the first round with a new starter on the offensive line would be franchise negligence by the Cowboys. And the way their offseason has gone so far, with pretty much all of their available resources committed to franchising defensive end Anthony Spencer, only strengthens that belief.

All of the good rapore that the FO has built (with me at least) in the last two years with the draft and most of the personell moves will all go to hell if they don't go OLine in the first round. Of course, if all of the good ones are gone I will understand. But if they don'te take a "chance" on a guard of some type if there, then they are boobs....

...I don't remember the last time a draft had me this excited AND this worried

I don't agree.

If a guard is the best player available, then take him.

But if there's better players there, don't be forced to a take a guard 'because we have to'.

I'd like to see this blueprint that some fans have that demonstrate guard as the missing piece to a championship

Totally agree with this, but my concern is that they will have similar grades on several Guards/D-linemen and take the DT simply because they feel that Romo can always make the line look better than it is for one more season.

I have nothing whatsoever to substantiate this, just an opinion.

I would like to see Dallas draft the best OL or DL on the board at 18, that's it.

This. Although I would prefer it be Cooper if they have to have an o-lineman.

Not if it is a reach. I don't think it's a good idea to reach in the first round. Always take the BPA (within reason) in the first round. There will still be starter quality OL in the second round. For example, if at pick 18, the best OL on the board has a grade around pick 28, then you take the best player on your board, and then look to address the OL in the next round.
