Great QB news: Cassel a possibility

Cassel is a horrible player at this point in his career. All he can do is dink and dunk, he has below average arm talent... and worse, he is a boring, non-charismatic player. He's the exact opposite of the kind of player you would want to inject to give them a "jolt". If you could put a shadow on game footage on Weeden this year to where I couldn't tell who it was, I would think it was Cassel.

Weeden is also a horrible football player. But if the Cowboys are playing a bad enough team -- and if the defense would ever decide to get a turnover or any back could break a tackle somewhere and make a play -- they can win with Weeden. Saying that it can't get any worse with Cassel is extremely dangerous. Cassel has no experience with this roster and has not played very much period over the last couple of years. If his expiration date has silently passed -- like Brad Johnson's did in 2008 -- they run the risk of losing one of the few winnable games they have left.

No QB on the roster was going to win this game today throwing to Lucky Whitehead and Devin Street. Acting like today was the straw that broke the camel's back is laughable. Whatever decision is made must be made with the idea of giving the team the best shot to beat the Eagles and Bucs. It's possible that may be Cassel, but I doubt it.

How is Cassel a horrible football player? Yeah he doesn't have the greatest arm in the world, but you don't need to. Romo doesn't have a great arm and is still one of the best in the league. Not comparing the two, but you don't have to have a cannon arm to be an effective starting quarterback. Cassell won't hold the ball, won't take as many sacks, has better mobility and can maneuver and step up in the pocket unlike Weeden, and he's better as hitting tight windows. That gives the Cowboys a much better chance than staying with this bum of a quarterback in Weeden.

Yeah the fact that we don't have any good options at reciever is evident, but there were still opportunities to get the ball to these guys and Weeden couldn't. He was so scared to challenge the Patriots he didn't even look across the field and would jump dump it off. Cassell at least has more of a propensity to do the fundamental things that Weeden refuses to like using his eyes and going through all his reads and not locking on to a target.

Defence gave Cowboys a fighting chance but ONE friggin 1st down and under 60 total yards in the first half was PATHETIC. A 3 and out on every single possession but one was a harbinger of things to come but does Garrett make any adjustments at half??? It was only matter of time that the D would be worn down (even leading Pats made adjustments on their O, while Jason twiddled his thumbs trying to ride it out) with the simplistic offence led by a simpleton with an inaccurate cannon of an arm.

Cassel does not do any of those things that you listed. You need to update the fantasy scouting report that you have in your mind, which is likely based on him playing with an all-world roster and coach 7 years ago. He was one of the worst quarterbacks in football in Minnesota and that was after training camp and playing with (as bad as they were) better backs and receivers than we currently have now. This is not going to end the way you seem to think it is.

I never said the defense was a problem this game, but that doesn't change the fact that three games in a row without a turnover is not going to get it done. The defense was mostly fine today. I'm mostly referring to the games that they actually had a chance to win, not today.

I haven't seen enough of Cassell to offer an assessment. However, after five straight three and outs, you must do something different. That's not giving your team a chance to win.

Did Minnesota have Dez Bryant? No they didn't last time I checked. The best weapon he had was Adrian Peterson. At least now with Dez likely coming back he'll have one of the best receivers in the game and an all time great tight end and two other guys in Williams and Beasley who will look much better with Dez in the lineup. He wasn't all that bad in Minnesota. Just wasn't much around him. If you think he doesn't have more field awareness, a better football IQ, more accuracy, more mobility than Weeden then you clearly haven't watched the scrub we trotted out there today.

Great news is Romo a possibility whenever that happens.

This may come as a shock but we don't have Dez Bryant either.

Cassel was horrific in Minnesota. You'll just have to deal with that.

At this rate they may just shut him down like they did in 2010.

If the Cowboys don't win a game by the time he's set to return they may shut him down because the season will likely be over.

I feel like the brutal part of our schedule is finally over. I feel more comfortable going up against the Giants and Eagles than I did with Falcons, Saints, and Patriots.

The next two games are winnable, especially if we get Bryant back and Cassel at QB. Need a Giants loss tonight though.

Just a few weeks ago the Falcons and saints were easy wins. Now, they're world-beaters?

That's not happening.

If the Cowboys are mathematically out of the playoffs by the time he's set to return they could shut him down. He could end up re injuring the shoulder again or something else late in the season and it could have an affect on his 2016 season.

I don't think they will be mathematically out of the playoffs after 9 games.

He's coming back after the bye Jerrah.

Since the point flew completely over your head, I'll just ask it... why is it that Weeden, who has actually played with Dez in college and the pros, wouldn't benefit from getting Dez back but Cassel, who hasn't thrown one pass with this team, would?

Way I see it to stay in the playoff hunt Dallas would need to win at least 2 of the next 4 games. It looked like a defeated team. Can't blame them. They've lost their quarterback, their emotional leader and best player in Dez Bryant, and if a change isn't made I can't see them being better than 2-7 when Romo returns.
