Is it the offseason still?

I was thinking how much the Packers need a WR and how many haters here would love for us to send T.O. there for a package of linemen and/or a draft pick(s).
But nonetheless, that brought me to thinkiing of two trades that stand out as greats ones in the history of the Dallas Cowboys.

1. The best one of all time IMHO is when Jimma hoodwinked the Vikings into sacrificing their future by giving us a passel of players and draft picks for Hershell Walker.

2. The other one was when Gil Brandt bounded into the room, filled with the media, to hold up a jersey with the named DORSETT on it. Seattle was the fall guy that time, I believe, and the rest is history.

Any other examples of great trades?

I think the Emmitt Smith trade should rank up there as well.

Two very under rated trades IMO.

1. Getting Don Meredith from the Bears for future draft picks.

2. Getting Steve Beuerlein from the Raiders for a 4th rounder.

Just a recent one, that based on production, we should be arrested for...

Terry Glenn for a sixth.

here is one for ya.. how about the one where the Cowboys gave up all their 6th and 7th round picks and Brady James to get the skins 6th pick in the draft which Dallas used on Calvin Johnson... ah...er.. I guess that hasn't come out yet has it...Time travel can be such a drag sometimes :)

especially when green bay traded that 6th rounder to san francisco who promptly used it for punter andy lee.

So essentially We acquried glenn for a punter.

Just be glad Tampa drafted Ricky Bell #1 over all in that 1977 draft. Sort of like the Jets taking Blair Thomas over Emmitt.

Back then, Dallas could afford to trade three 2nd round picks. They still managed to have three 2nd picks of their own after losing those picks to Seattle. Dallas drafted Glen Carano(1977), Todd Christenson(1978) and Aaron Mitchell(1979) all in their respective 2nd rounds after the Dorsett trade. They knew how to horde picks, which gave them plenty of options.

That's a good one to mention.

Any idea what the Cowboys had to give up for Adderley, Alworth, and Ditka? Each one was quite important.

Butch Johnson to the Oilers for Mike Renfro and a 5th pick.

Johnson was cut in training camp...and signed with Denver.

Mike Renfro played some solid years in Dallas...and the 5th we used to draft....Herschel Walker....who, well, you know the rest of that story.

Not a Cowboy trade, but the Rams getting 26 year old Marshall Faulk for a 2nd and 5th round pick has to be one of the greatest thefts in recent NFL memory.
