Signing big money guys looking to cash in is not how you team build.
We saw Tampa with Revis right?

They are spending money but they aren't any good.
In two years half these guys will likely have moved on one way or the other.

But at least their fan base can celebrate the off-season championship.
We've never seen a single team who won it win a Super Bowl.

depends on how old the players are. If you can get 3-4 good years from them then since they have to spend the money anyway it is a good idea. The JAGS have been so scrooge like for so long they will have to spend big this year and next just to avoid getting into trouble. Since they have to they do seem to have a plan; they have just signed their OTs and are looking at further improvements in the O line and are starting on their D. If they have a good draft this year and next added to the FA's they could very well be compeititive if Bortles developes. In which case then all the spending was worth it.

The only one I can think of is the 49'ers when they cheated the cap and beat us in the NFC Championship Game.

man, that whole team was a bunch of renegades..... and we still would have beaten them if it wasn't for injuries and that silly start.....

still burning...... to jterell's defense, they had a good team before signing all of those 30-something championship chasers....

New England spent a lot of money for Revis and won a super bowl out of it. The only difference is that they had risk management in there with a voidable year (basically they signed him to a Franchise Tag type deal), but they are still working on something long term.

It isn't a perfect example, but that was a hefty win in Free Agency and improved their defense substantially. Definitely the exception to the rule though.

Have Orakpo and Sheard been talked about with anyone yet? Both would be nice upgrades.

I haven't seen anything where they were connected to the Cowboys. Orakpo mentioned he wouldn't mind playing for Dallas since he is from Texas.

Just wondering as they will both be upgrades at far cheaper cost than Hardy.

That's not quite the case in Jax. They are an extremely young team with a need for some play makers and veterans at key positions. The guys they are signing aren't your typical free agents. Most of these guys are very young that got released from cap strapped teams.

Orakpo's been mentioned with the Cards, Colts and Skins. Seeing as how Cole's on his way to the Colts, I guess it's down to the Cards and Skins. Even with his injury history, I'd be willing to roll the dice on him as long as the price is right. The one drawback with signing him is that it wouldn't give us too much flexibility come draft time. Because of his past injuries, I would still try to grab a DE early.

Great.. we are only interested in second tier players and not going to go get a top tier defensive FA when our team desperately needs it.
Did they not pay attention that our defense wasn't good enough to get us to the super bowl? The window is closing rapidly on our vets man.

jax going all in... make fun if you want.. but thomas, murrary, a rehabbed blackmon, hardy... and a solid draft... to go with the pieces they have...

I'm just saying

The GM's havin' lots of fun with all his cap money.

Wouldn't be surprised if he were gone in 3 years when these FA's and their contracts start to stink.

Apparently Weeden will keep us in contention when Romo is done. We got to look at the future.
