The GM's havin' lots of fun with all his cap money.

Wouldn't be surprised if he were gone in 3 years when these FA's and their contracts start to stink.

I wouldn't either... but I wouldn't be surprised if it works also...

3 years is a lifetime in the NFL. If Bortles takes a big step forward, they may make some noise within 2 years.

Encouraged by this but I feel Jerry needs to give him a huge contract.

Exactly......not much else out there though. Gotta overpay and hope he doesn't tank like Carr did, but in Carrs defense he was good his first season here then they changed over to the zone bs. Either way, I would rather have Hardy here on a big contract than no Hardy at all, the time is now

I think they'll be pretty bad as well, but they'll show signs of life at least. Their offense was so putrid that it would be hard NOT to improve, even with Bortles.

I see them possibly being a 7 win team (which is great considering a decade of 2-3 win seasons) but I don't see them being legitimate competitors any time soon. Especially since Indy seems to be going all-in too and Indy was in the AFC Championship last year.

I still think the AFC belongs to New England and I think Indy is making themselves a legit contender to overtake the Patriots. Outside of those two teams, I don't see any contenders. I see some decent teams (Miami, Houston, San Diego, KC, Buffalo, Pitt, Cincy), some middle of the road teams (Browns, Jags) and some awful teams. The AFC is weak.

Ha.

Sometimes he irritates me when he presents his own speculation the same way as when he actually has inside info, but that's worded pretty emphatically, so who knows?

Sounds like he knows something. I hope that's the case.

I usually don't dive into conspiracy theory junk, but considering that I've never seen Broaddus answer a single tweet about Hardy and whether Dallas would be interested, this is somewhat interesting:

Actually, I take that back. I see where he mentioned him on Sunday.

The only one I can think of is the 49'ers when they cheated the cap and beat us in the NFC Championship Game.

If you are talking about 1994 that is fair.
I wasn't counting that as that was the first year of the salary cap.

In the salary cap era the teams who most often win the off-season fail miserably once the season starts.

New England spent a lot of money for Revis and won a super bowl out of it. The only difference is that they had risk management in there with a voidable year (basically they signed him to a Franchise Tag type deal), but they are still working on something long term.

It isn't a perfect example, but that was a hefty win in Free Agency and improved their defense substantially. Definitely the exception to the rule though.

They signed a guy to a one year deal and shifted cash from the OL (Logan Mankins) to CB.
No one was arguing the Pats won free agency last year.

They actually got Revis at a bargain as Tampa had paid him mega-bucks before moving on.
