Yup, and meanwhile Aldon Smith's case won't be heard until March.

Are you making any point here?

Smith remains suspended until then. So he's out and hasn't played even since he could be reinstated.

Think your argument through, then post.

he'll get suspended just for inconveniencing Goodell with the appeal
Blah blah blah Goodwill. Blah blah blah Mara.

People, you can post better. Let's try to have some intelligent conversation here

I really never got my hopes up for the playoffs anyway.

Haven't looked it up, but when was the last time the league just said "Whoops our bad" in an appeal? Seems like it's always reduced if anything.

If the rumors are true, and the NFL can bear not handing down punishment, great. Usually try to approach these instances with Murphy's Law though.

This is such a silly suspension. So your going to punish a player for a missing a test because he was at rehab? I could understand if RG was caught smoking weed again. But for the NFL to suspend him for being in rehab to cure his drug addiction is just stupid.

I won't be surprised if he is suspended again though. It goes to show how other teams get away with far way more infractions than Dallas and get nothing but a slap on the wrist.

If Jerruh had balls he would take this appeal to the supreme court.

People want to blame Mara and Goodell.

But Randy Gregory only has himself to blame for the mess he is in.

Just be consistent.

If you're going to expedite things to suspend Gregory for weed, why isn't the same being done to Floyd's drunk driving ***? Which one is really worse to society? Patriots picked him up and nobody in the media batted an eye. Could you imagine the uproar if we did the same? Just be consistent, that's all I ask.

if you don't like what we're talking about, whether serious or facetious you can simply not read the thread (my comment was made in jest btw, or did you not catch that?)

I'm just not sure this has been expedited. This issue has been hanging over Gregory's head for months.

There have been rumors of another failed drug test even before he was reinstated from his last failed test.

Gregory's entire career has been one **** show after another since before the Combine. And all because he can't lay off the weed, even though he is well aware of the consequences.

They've established that the penalty for missing a test is much much less then the penalty for failing a test, witness the fact that Le'Veon Bell got his suspension reduced and his place in the program not escalated last year. Bell's excuses, if Gregory being unavailable due to being in an facility for drug rehab is correct, are much weaker then Gregory's. I couldn't make it to the facility because I was coming off of a surgery and I slept through it, the last one is a child's excuse for why they're late to school.

Jerry's comments last week about not being sure Randy would be able to play in the post season said it all, they know he's about to get the 1 year ban hammer.

My apologies for asking for intelligent posts.

I saw it as little to ask.

You clearly see that as a huge barrier to your participation.

This is the problem. The NFL completely makes things up as they go.

Yes, Gregory has himself to blame. But doesn't Floyd?

Exactly.

Randy Gregory is following the treatment program laid out for him and attempting to overcome his addiction.

The Substances of Abuse program is about trying to help players, it isn't in place simply to punish every transgression.

If Gregory has passed all his tests since going to rehab and complied with all other aspects of his treatment program, the appeals committee should see he's making progress and let him keep playing.

If Jerruh had balls he would take this appeal to the supreme court.
No can do.

The upcoming appeal hearing is the last step in this dance.

Whatever decision is handed down by the independent panel is final. Both parties must accept the judgement, it was collectively bargained to be done in this manner. There can be no further appeal on this matter once a ruling is made.

Gregory will either be allowed to continue playing or he will be given a minimum one year suspension.

The suspension is open ended, he can apply for reinstatement shortly before the one year point arrives, but Roger Goodell will decide whether or not, and when, the ban will end. Goodell will talk to the medical director and the medical advisor handling Gregory's case to see if there has been any more failed tests and if the player has been adhering to every aspect of the treatment program that was laid out.

There would have to be no more failed tests and Gregory would have to be in full compliance with all other criteria in his treatment program to hope to be reinstated.

It isn't easy to return to the NFL from such a ban.

And such harsh judgement is handed down lightly.

There was a pff article on here last week saying that the league wanted to make sure a decision on Gregory was made before the playoffs to avoid any competitive adv/disadv. So I think they had it in mind to get this nipped in a bud before the playoffs.

It isn't up to the NFL to decide.

The Substances of Abuse program was collectively bargained with the NFLPA.

The policy is very clear.

Appeal hearings will be scheduled to take place the fourth Tuesday following issuance of the notice of discipline. If both parties agree, it may be rescheduled to another date.
