Gronk out again, becoming the Romo of TEs.
Witten over 200 straight games going to pass Sharpe in both TDs and Yards.
Is there really any debate as to who is the overall better player?
Just when you think he's been shot too many times after so many years... BAM! Guy should invest in Kevlar.

Id say Gronk is Moss, Gonzalez is Rice, Witten is Irvin.

I really do think that Gonzalez shouldn't be compared to Gronk, Witten, Heath Miller or other traditional TEs. You hardly ever saw Gonzalez with his hand in the dirt and blocking on 3rd and 4. I think I saw a stat one time that he lined up wide for 80% of his career (don't quote me).

Gronk, Witten, and to a lesser extent, Gates, all played as a traditional TE. Gonzalez was a rocked up WR. He was great, but he was mostly a WR nonetheless.

Gronk is a better TE than Witten.

No shame in that, guys.

Gronk vs Gonzo is a better debate.

I love Witt, but the only thing he has on Gronk is longevity and, as I said, reliability.

Gronk averages more Yards per game and nearly averages 3 times as many TDs.

Pretty much this.

Witten is an all-time great and and a future HOFer, however, Gronk is doing things statistically that are mind blowing -- particuarly his productivity catching TDs.

He already has more TDs than Witten (68 vs 62) despite playing 130 less games!

Witten is the better overall tight end. Gronk is more like a large and fast Novacek. His blocking is mostly about 'getting in the way.'

But, Gronk is an incredible passing threat. He's like Calvin Johnson for TE's while Witten is more like Art Monk.

Can't imagine anyone outside of our Cowboys world saying Witt > Gronk.
Not here to argue one way or the other, just saying how I think the consensus is.

For 1 game and both are healthy i'll probably take Gronk over any TE that's ever played this game.

I would rather have Jason Witten for 16 games than have Gronk for 8.

The only thing Gronk has over Witt is his athletic ability. Witt is a better blocker, better route runner, more reliable on game day and one of the most clutch pass catching TE in football.

There is no debate who's the better player....it's Gronk. He's the greatest TE ever.

But Witten is BY FAR more reliable.
That depends if you are strictly looking at receiving only. Gronk does not compare to Witten in the blocking department. But Gronk is the greatest receiving TE I have ever seen

I thought Gronk was considered a pretty good blocker? At 265 pounds he certainly has the size for it.

Edit: I just did a quick search and it looks like the general consensus in Gronk is one of the top blocking TEs in the NFL -- a couple of years ranked by PFF as #2 in the league in blocking beyond Marty Bennett.

Gronk is one of the funnest players to watch in the NFL, but he has injury issues to be sure.

"Well-rounded" is nice, but any blocking advantage Witten has is blown away by Gronk's receiving advantage.

Offer me either guy at their peak for one game and I take Gronk, no question.
Offer me either guy for a season and it depends: if my team is very competitive already, then I opt for Witten's reliability. If I'm short on talent, I go for Gronk's risk-reward.

You people saying Gronk isn't a good blocker are misinformed.

greatest TE ever? Look at Gronks numbers and then look at Tony G's numbers(who played with bums for the majority of his career). If Gronk keeps missing games, no way does he surpass Gonzalez.

To me Gronk has alway been a splash player, he is a great player but I woul take the grinder Witt over him. Gronk plays in a system that is good for him, I don't think he would have the same numbers if he played with Cowboys
Agree, plus he plays with probably the best QB of al time, a QB that turned a lot of marginal WRs into probowlers.

Longevity matters. Witten is a slam dunk HOFer. If Gronk never played again, it would be interesting to see if he would make it.

Gronk is definitely the better athlete and player when healthy. And yes, he is a very good blocker. A few years ago, he said he studied Witten a lot when he decided he wanted to become a better all round player.
