Michael Irvin asked Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to serve as his presenter when the former wide receiver enters the Pro Football Hall of Fame next month.

They will probably long speeches but I don't plan on watching as I am still boycotting the HOF until they honor Bob Hayes and Drew Pearson. They will never be aware or care about my boycott, but I will know and it will make a difference to me, if noone else. Just a personal thing.

I used to like and respect Irvin up until his head swelled up and burst, spilling out what little common sense he had. I have little use for empty headed blowhards, being one myself. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're taking things entirely too seriously.

I suppose I should just let bygones be bygones and let it go but perceived injustice is difficult for me to just accept quietly. I can understand the prejudice against Bob Hayes because of the drug conviction after his playing days were over, but not Drew Pearson. In my view, if Pearson had been the size of Michael Irvin, he could have set records that would still be standing.

Drew Pearson is a product of playing most of his career in the 70's and in those times they did not pass the ball like they do now. For instance I believe Drew lead the NFC in recieving yards one season and he did not even get over 1000yds. That's no knock on Drew, believe me, he was my all time favorite Cowboy player...it just shows the difference in how they played back then as compared to now. Also Drew played when they only had 14 games a season. If Lynn Swann gets in then Drew deserves to get in also. There numbers are eerily similar and we all know how Lynn Swann came up big in the big games. Drew was also a big game player...big time!
Hail Mary
Thanksgiving day miracle
2tds in the last 5 minutes to beat the Falcons in a divisional playoff game.
Who was 70yds downfield to help Dorsett get his 99yd td run?
The guy was a shirt tail away from wiping away Dwight Clark's catch away from our memories for ever. A lot of people do not remember that one.
Every time I hear someone in the media bring up Drew's name for Hall of Fame consideration I hear the same thing..."Drew's not even in the Ring of Honor for his own team. How can you put him in the Hall of Fame?"
That get's me so mad!
Drew deserves to be in both, and Jerry holding a grudge ala Schramn vs Lee Roy Jordan is ridiculous!
Do the right thing Jerry and put a big part of Cowboys history in the Ring of Honor...some of us old Cowboy fans would love to re-live those memories one more time!:worthy2:

Even though I don't agree with your boycott, I respect it completely nonetheless. It's almost criminal (no pun intended) for the Hall of Fame to exclude Hayes and Pearson. In fact, the injustice to Pearson is compounded by his exclusion from the Ring of Honor. And in Pearson's case, Lynn Swann's enshrinement was, and still is, the ultimate slap in the face. If he meets HOF criteria, so does Pearson in my book.

Good post. I've got to start reading everyone else's reply before doing so myself. :)

Oh, man!! I admire Jerry Jones, but listening to him talk on and on and on is like fingernails on a chalkboard!

I'll have to watch, but, I'll have to have some beer first so that maybe, just maybe I will get lucky and pass out before JJ comes on...

Did you happen to like the Super Bowls he helped to win? If so, you should keep your concentration on the work he did for us and not him personally.
Just my opinion..

The presenter and the inductee have time limits. But be assured they will use all that time.

I'd rather hear Jerra than some other long-winded owner or former or current player or coach who never wore the star.

They will probably have to send the Sandman on stage to get those two off..:laugh2:
I hope not. Jones is so slick that he could present Irvin AND talk the Sandman into buying some beachfront property before he left the stage. :)

Rayfield Wright went way over his time limit. I think his presenter went over too.

I think with Jerry, we're just going to see a record breaking number of lip smacking.

My most sincere sympathies go out to the company which will have to transcribe the official text of Jones' speech.

Just my opinion..

There is merit in what you say; after all, the HOF is to honor what they did on the field, not off the field. I respect and admire his on the field accomplishments and feel he should be honored for them - he belongs in the HOF. It's his brash, bragadocious in-your-face personality and his self-centeredness I have trouble with.

Same thing with Jerry Jones, but I guess he can afford any kind of personality he wants and I don't have to like it. Of course I don't have to give Jerry Jones any of my money either and I don't; as far as I am concerned, he has enough of other people's money already, he doesn't need any of mine.

Still, I wish his team well.

I respect each of them for their accomplishments, I just don't like either of them. Of course neither of them care about my opinion of them, nor should they, and I'll just quietly watch the games on TV and enjoy the game regardless of whether the team wins or loses. Life goes on.
