Ya mean.. like his first two years in the league that he did it?

Honestly I really question sometimes whether people even bother to think before they post. It's strange how often we seem to have posts that seem to indicate that the people who are supposed to be fans don't seem to actually bother to watch the team.

Quotes like the one you're refering to make me seriously question whether the guy has even watched the Dallas Cowboys or he just says he does.

I think the OP meant don't let him get away when that time comes, not give him a big pay raise right now. It would be great if Bailey is the answer for years to come. I thought Folk was going to be the man and I had high hopes for The Buehler. You just can't take a great kicker for granted. I hope we found one in Bailey because they're hard to find.

Precisely..correct. Thanx.

Two years as a kicker who has played well doesn't qualify him for a big deal right now. He's certainly not a priority right now. Not sure why you guys think it should be..explain.

And I've been a fan since 1965 and have had seats in Texas Stadium from opening day on and now seats at the Cowboys new home. So I think i know the team. Yikes.

A little too much testosterone if you ask me.

lol

Little too defensive if you ask me.

You said let's see him do it for two years before we give him a deal.

All i did was point out that he has done it for two years.

Any miscommunication other than that isn't anything to get heated about. Im sure we're all glad to know your fan history though.

Yikes..

I'm not sure this has been posted, but I thought I'd mention it in case the board, in general, wasn't aware.

It's not yet official as he needs another 30 or so attempts, but Dan Bailey, as of now, is the all time NFL leader in career FG percentage at 89.7%. He has a 2% lead over Alex Henery who also hasn't officially qualified yet, but if he continues on his current pace, by the end of the year, he will supplant Vanderjagt from the top position on the list. Last year, he had 26 attempts from inside the 40, and he was successful on all of them. He has also never missed an extra point.

Recently, Jerry Jones said that he was open to the idea of extending Bailey when the time comes, but I honestly don't see how he couldn't. You don't let guys like Bailey walk.

I like Bailey but part of that reason is due to failure in the redzone by the offense and we settle for chip shot FG. I think Bailey is good and hope he is with us for a good while but I could do with a few less FG and a few more TD

Actually, that's false. Out of the top 18 kickers in the league last year, only ONE had less attempts of 29 yards or less. Bailey was also a perfect 20-20 on field goals in the 30-50 yard range and his only 2 misses last year came from further than 50 yards out.

Folk was great his first few years. Hopefully we've got a HOF kicker on our hands but it's really early to crown him.

I'm not saying he is a bad FG kicker but we are not getting TD and having to settle for FG, I never said his accuracy between 30-50 were bad. I would also point out a 30 FG the ball is spotted inside the 20 yard line. We kick too many short FG because we fail inside the 20.

You said alot of the reason for his success was because he get alot of "chip shot" oppertunities.. i was simply saying that wasn't true.

I expect him to make the vast majority of FG inside of 40 yards and yes that does help the record. I think he is a fine kicker but when you have 53 attepmpts from inside 40 that is a lot of kicking and not enough TD. If the ball is on the 20 and the holder is 6 to 7 yards back the goal post are 10 yards deep that is a 36/37 yard FG. NE kicker has only 20 attemps from inside 40 why because they score TD

He made ALL of his attempts under 40 yards.. guess how many other kickers did that last year?

Also, you're number of 53 attempts from inside 40 must have been pulled out of your pants because i have no idea where that came from, but i know its not accurate.

Even if it was though, Bailey doesn't control how many TD's we score or don't score. His job is to make FG's when we ask him to.. and he's done that better than anyone else in the league the past two years.

Also, you tried to make it seem like he gets many more chip shot FG's than other kickers, and i've proven that's incorrect. All this talk about where the ball is placed for a 35 yard FG is irrelevant to that point because almost every other kicker in the league got more FG attempts inside 30 yards than Bailey.

Lawyered.

How much more time does Bailey have on his current contract?

After how poorly Nick Folk played in 2009 (after two outstanding seasons,) I think the Cowboys need to wait another season or two with Bailey. If he's still kicking at 85% or higher for 2013 and 2014, then by all means give him a good contract.

I'm pretty sure that this is the final year of his contract. He signed a 3 year deal in 2011 for 1.4 million.

Ah, I see.

You know, maybe I change my mind a bit now. Maybe the Cowboys really should just give Bailey a 3-year or 4-year contract extension now. Even if he turns out to have a Nick Folk-like downturn in his career later on, it's still kicker money. Not wide receiver or quarterback money.
