Had Gurode not became an alternate pro bowler how much money do you think we could have saved on his contract? He got 6 years 30 million and 10 million bonus, i say if he hadnt made the probowl it would have probably been about 3.5 million a year with only about 6 million signing bonus. I hated seeing him make the probowl because i knew he would have a huge bargaining chip.

Chances are the Pro Bowl put an extra million in his pocket.

I agree. I do think Gurode is a good player and now that he is no longer looked at as Guard/Center and can concentrate on 1 position and I do think he will get better. I think he had a good year and hopefully he can build on this past season.

Initial word out of Valley Ranch is that it could have saved them 0.01 cents by not having to type the words "Andre Gurode - Pro Bowler" under every signature line in the contract.

Come on...they know what kind of player he is, pro bowl or not.

True but if the Pro Bowl was not a big deal so many players would not have that as part of the incentives that tend to be in their contract. I agree the Pro Bowl is not a be all but it does have a certain amount of impact on players and their contracts. Personally I don’t think Pro Bowl means best player but I do think it mean one of the better players

That is where it is relevant. Not in base contract numbers. A deal is struck based on what you can do in the future, not what you've already done - at least not for a player like Gurode, who is hardly at the pinnacle of his career or position.

But players are paid based on what they did and the hope is they will continue to improve or play to that same level in the future. Owners do not have crystal balls and we have all seen the players who go out and have great seasons in a contract year and never live up to the expectations. Making the Pro Bowl in my opinion only helped Gurode in getting the contract he received, it clearly did not hurt him

may have made a small difference but the big thing was there are no good centers in f.a. this year so he would have gotten a nice contract offer and his agent knew it

Wow you people act like Gurode wasn't the best lineman we had last year, I mean look who's playing beside him, Kosier and Rivera? Gurode played his first full season as center and played really well and factor in his age, smart move by the Cowboys.

Hated seeing him make it? What kind of fan are you? Is it your money they're paying him?
Why don't you try being happy for him being the first center since Stepnoski or Donaldson to make it?

I think the PB makes a difference with the agent's asking price and name recognition. It probably made an appreciable difference in the contract talks. If agents weren't involved, then I would agree that he is what he is--but contracts have less to do with real value than with perceived value.
