Gus Johnson separated shoulder

I'm not saying I am against holding them out of a preseason game, I'm saying they are in fact injured or battling injuries, whether they are minor or large (I consider McFadden's a little more than minor with his history hamstring injuries)
Well, there's no guarantee that Murray or a highly touted rookie would not have been nicked up last night either. There's just no need to push the panic button yet. Way too early.

His TD run was good but the rest of the night was pretty average as far as I am concerned.

Of course it was just one preseason game.

I realize RB should have played better. I expect much more from our starters than I saw from some the guys we had playing last night. I don't want to come down on Gus but he is what he is a last min addition because of injuries at RB. Nothing more.

So again. You realize that we weren't running our 5 out there.

Gus isn't a special talent. He'd likely have been drafted otherwise.

But the entire premise of what the Cowboys are doing....investing in our line so that we can get production from anyone at RB....is exactly the type of strategy that won't look very good when your starters are not playing in preseason.

What in the world are you complaining about? Keep calm.

we still had 3 of the 5 who did play. OL does not make a RB it take skill. Even the best RB to play the game relied on an OL but the OL alone is not what makes a RB great. I'm not complaining I'm stating an opinion on Gus Johnson, an UDFA who is only here because of injury what part of that do you not understand? Now Johnson is hurt and if he has a separated shoulder he is out for a while and for an UDFA that pretty much seals your fate since come Sat Randle and McFadden will be taking the majority of snaps

I'm not against letting these unknowns get their shot, that's what preseason is for. I'm not against allowing Randle to prove he can carry the load, even though I personally feel that he can't. What I have an issue with is putting s played like McFadden behind him with a history of multiple injuries. I care more about grabbing a FA on his level that has a history of being reliable.

No one was very lenient towards Austin and his hamstring problems, and when they started to act up, criticisms were thrown his way and it ultimately cost him a spot on this team. McFadden's hamstrings are not much better, difference is, he has many other injuries to go with it.

So when other veteran RBs are brought up, I'm not even expecting these RBs to be 1,000 yard RBs; we missed our chance on that. What we can at least happen is get more reliable RBs on this team. I understand injuries can be unpredictable, but all you can go on is history and that is usually a pretty good indicator late in a players career.

I liked Johnson's toughness, although I noticed a few runs where he had trouble keeping his balance. It seems his style of running, head low, ramming it up in the pile, is conducive to that possibly.

We started 2. Another was played out of position. Do you understand how important cohesion is to a running game (and pass blocking for that matter)?

And do you realize how one guy getting beat can negate what the other guys are doing?

We don't have a dominant o-line because of just 3 guys. We have a dominant one because Leary and Free (sorry @xwalker) punch at or above their weight.

Doug Free and sorry in the same sentence...

it is hard to judge performances when the other team plays 10+ plus veterans and you sit 50% of your starters or more.

san diego looks at pre-season very differently than dallas.
we can fully expect to look like crap every time we play them pre-season week 1, i.e. every year.

SD had their own issue with losing starting and back up OL players. Rivers and Gate played 4 or 5 plays? SD RB like Oliver looked good even behind their back up line but then Oliver is a talented RB. Johnson is camp fodder he was brought in at the last min for 1 reason and that was due to Randle, Dunbar and McFadden being out. Randle and McFadden will be back to work Sat and Gus is likely headed for the IR

Rivers and Gates played a series. The same amount of time Weeden did.
Oliver looked good because he is their back up RB, not 4th RB.

When you start at 3rd or 4th on the depth chart the other teams looks better.

It happened this time last year too.

Dallas sat both OTs(the 3rd OT is really out injured) and the top 3 RBs.

BTW, SD ripped us last year in rushing in ps week 1 then we went on to do what we did and they finished 30th in rushing. Oliver was their starter and leading rusher but averaged 3.6 yards per carry and had 3 TDs. No one was calling him talented when SD felt they had to trade up and draft Melvin Gordon.

Where are people getting that Zack Martin played RT last night?

He didn't. Martin was at his regular RG position. John Wetzel played RT with the starters, and then kicked in to RG from the second series onward, where R.J. Dill then played RT.

I get that our guys are injured that is why Gus played that is why Gus is here. I seriously doubt he would have gotten a call from the Cowboys had Randle, McFadden and Dunbar not been dealing with injuries. He got a chance but now is injured himself and I doubt Cowboys will keep that training camp roster spot for him.

I know that as well, still what most coaches will take from this game are negatives that is how you teach and correct mistakes. The outcome of the game itself is completely meaningless. Poor tackling is not acceptable and I'm sure Rod will be getting after the guys own tackling.

As for Oliver I think he is a talented role player that is why they got Gordon in the draft to for their sake to be the lead RB.

Chris Johnson has a pending open offer from the cardinals on a 1 year deal.
We are running out of time. Backs will go down in preseason around the league. The veterans will find homes.
Just saying.

Yeah, need to get some RB's in camp, they are falling like flies.

Yeah I thought Gus Johnson looked alright.

I don't get the criticism.

Agreed. The guy has only been with the team since training camp.

He has enough speed to get to the corner. He showed that.
He keeps his legs moving. Showed that on the 4th down run and the TD.
Has some size. Always moving forward. Didn't have a negative run. Consistent.

Now he's hurt. But for the first preseason game, he was alright.

We are one month away from facing the NY Giants in primetime.

I dont think we have RB on roster that can carry the load against the stronger teams; Less then a month!

Its time to panic...................
