Gut Feeling: Cowboys Will Draft Bryce Petty

-Just have a hunch. I think this is the draft we finally grab Romo's successor. Mariota will be gone in the top 3 and Winston is a classic example of a million-dollar arm and a ten cent head. Don't think the Cowboys bite. Brett Hundley's an option also, but I think Jerrah will favor Petty because he's a natural leader and a classy, stand-up kid. Plus the Texas connection. Petty's projected to be a late 1st-early 2nd rounder so he'd be easier to be had.

-Personally, I think Petty's a bit overrated and his stats are inflated by the spread offense he plays in, but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

-What say you? In favor of Petty, or would you rather go with someone else? Or wait another year?

Im really not sold on Petty as a solid. I think he has ability to be good beyond a system QB, but he is a blank slate once he is out of that system. He is gonna need alot of coaching going throw his progressions and is gonna need to work on his mechanics to get the most out of his arm. He has an NFL arm, but he doesnt show it consistently.

I think he is a mid rounder. Maybe a 3rd because I think he has starter potential

In addition to Petty, Mannion (Oregon St) and Cook (Mich St) also interest me tremendously in the second to third rounds, possibly even in the later first. We're overdue in picking up a youngster and its going to cost us a high draft pick but in the bigger scheme of things…no QB = no team in this league.

The more I watch Mannion, the less I seem to like him. Seems like a career backup to me, or at least not a QB who can lead a team to the promised land. Connor Cook seems more likely to return to school for his Senior season, especially if he doesn't have a 1st or 2nd round grade, which I think would help him a lot anyways. I don't think he's quite ready, although I do like his prospects whenever he does come out as well.

Can Petty finally break the Big XII QB curse? So many QBs over the years who haven't panned out for whatever reason:

Vince Young
Josh Freeman
Sam Bradford
Blaine Gabbert
Colt McCoy
Brandon Weeden

And possibly RG3 if health continues to hold him back

I'm with you, IAL. It's obvious from the T-Will pick and commentary afterwards that Jerry knows Briles well (again, Briles daughter works for the team) and respects his opinion. Plus Williams' success will only reinforce that.

Of course it all depends on where he's drafted and what pick we have, etc.

Someone mentioned Mannion from Oregon State... Keep an eye on that, too, as the ties from Garrett to Mike Riley run extremely deep.

The final verdict has not be determined for Ryan Tannehill, either who was a BigXII QB.

I thought Briles daughter was no longer a part of the Cowboys organization.

I'm interested why so many people think QB is such a high priority. Yes, we will need to start grooming a QB at some stage to eventually replace Romo. However, with his new contract, and the related salary cap hit. I cannot see a high draft pick going on a QB next year. And frankly, I would be pissed if they did ! I think Weeden can be an effective bridge to our next signal caller, and we have a young QB we are grooming already - so why, if Romo has another 3-4 years as the primary QB would you tie up a 1st or 2nd round pick, when those recourses MUST go to the defense. Injury would be the only reason a QB picked in this draft coming up would ever sniff the field, and with how the new found running game seams to be allowing Romo time to completely heal (Don't think he is quite there yet). We can clearly see what a dominant OL has completely changed the whole outlook/identity of our team - so why on gods green earth would we not choose to turn those same resources to the defense ?

I dont think the guy can play and think you would come to the same conclusion if the Cowboys were stuck with him any length of time. Also Romo is 34,has taken a lot of hits, and has had two recent back surgeries. Only thing guaranteed about his future is guarenteed money.

I can't see a QB draft [early]this season. Does anyone know how good the QB group is rated in 2015? thanks
Depends on how Romo looks the rest of the season.

This freshman a&m QB is looking interesting.

I am beginning to suspect we draft DB positions early

If the Cowboys do end up waiting until 2016, I'd love if they looked at Christian Hackenberg of PSU or Kenny Hill from Texas ATM, IF they come out after their Jr seasons.

Can you tell me what the winning Georgia lottery number is while you're at it? ;)

Petty is definitely looking like a system QB out there today vs. Texas

Me thinks Jerry signs a good veteran back-up instead.

Drafting a QB early will only ignite the fan base and media once Romo has a signature bad game.

Maybe if he falls to the 3rd or 4th but I think it would be stupid to draft a qb earlier
