Owens will just not let issues go. TO bring attention on himself when he does that, Haley on the other hand just did not do that. I will say both guys will tell you like it is or at least how they see it but Haley will then drop it and move on TO just continues to pick at the scab.

Oh Lawdy!!!! Lawd, Lawd!!!

How will out little shrinking violet players ever, ever handle such adversity?

They are all at home curled up into a fetal position scared to death that TO might find himself a microphone again and ruin the chemistry!!!

I did not say teammates were. I only stated a difference in 2 players who had past problems. I think TO makes it easy on the media to keep these stories alive. I said nothing about how other players on the team are reacting to it. I will say out of 53 players on a roster I can promise you not all 53 are thrilled about it but the bottom line is for guys to do their job. You don't have to be best of friends and out of 53 men on a team I can promise you not all guys are best of buddies but they are highly paid professionals

IMO can't compare the two situations...well because the two situations are entirely different.

The coaches are different. The organization is different. The leadership on the team is different. The media is different. The fans are different.

Also do not underestimate the positional difference between the two WR v. DE.

Drama follows TO. You can say it is TO's fault or you can say it is the media's fault, but in the end the result is the same. He is a distraction.

Is he a distraction in the lockerroom? I do not know that. Maybe he is or maybe he is not. Anyone can claim to know the truth but in the end it is just speculation.

For my money he brings too much drama, is too inconsistent when it matters the most, and dissapears in games. I would be more than willing to move on without him.

He is not getting any younger or better.

Then we agree that it doesn't matter, right? Other than to posters.

It should not matter. I think it can matter when a team is losing and the overall attitude in the locker room is starting to meltdown then it can be an issue. I don't think it is at that point in Dallas but yes some things we see today can start to matter and wear thin on a team when things are going bad and players are under attack from outside and inside a team. Even the players will say winning cures all because when you are winning you can push these incidents off much easier

It is so humorous that people sit around worrying about something like TO distracting a team. I saw Favre play after his father died, I saw the Tampa kicker play after HIS CHILD died, I have heard of HUNDREDS of players play after losing someone close, yet those things do not stop them from focusing and playing BUT , Lord help us, if TO gets on TV and says something outrageous- then the whole thing might fall apart.

People need to give these grown men credit for being able to shift through the BS. They are players, they aren't fans who sit around and parse every utterance.

I don't think there is an issue right now, I think many who predicted an issue with TO are pushing their agenda based on some minor events from last week. I will say I have seen situations in sports and other business where the actions and attitude of a person can lead to the breakdown in production to say it is never an issue is BS of course it can be an issue.

I think if you have a team who is struggling to win it can be an issue dealing with eternal issues.

As for your comparison of detractions of Favre father dying or the kicker from Tampa Bay that is a bit different because you have the support from teammates and family to help you through it.

No doubt it is difficult for the individual who is dealing with it but it is not a situation where some guys are behind you and the others are against you.

My point exactly! Thank you!

For you and the other comprehension impaired posters here, let me explain.Charles Haley was one of the most divisive locker room forces i the history of the NFL. Players hated him yet they won.

WHY? Because the crap you guys whine about doesn't matter.

How many rings did Haley have by the time he was 34? Teams overcame the Haley crap. (whatever that is?) So far no team has overcome TO and the door of opportunity is closing fast.

Oh, and my comprehension skills are just fine thanks.

If you don't even know what the "Haley crap" is- you are probably in over your head in this particular thread.

Part of Haley crap was peeing in a teammates gas tank and getting into a fight. SF reached the end of their rope with him and when he signed with Dallas Jimmy told him he would not put up with that in Dallas.

No in my words Jimmy warned him ahead of time that what was taking place in SF was something he was not going to deal with in Dallas. Haley had outburst in Dallas but nothing to the extent that was starting to happen in SF and as I said and players will say winning cures all. Having 3 SB in 4 years not many players were in need of finger pointing. I think you are being a bit naïve to think it never matters because if it did not matter these other teams would not get to the point of getting rid of these players. They don’t do it because they lack talent they do it because they get fed up with the antics.

BTW- The peeing story is probably just that, a story. I've seen nothing that makes me believe it was anything other than a plant in the media to justify SF giving Haley to Dallas.

There are plenty of other confirmed stories of Haley's behavior that make TO look like Mother Teresa...

That was said by the player whose gas tank was pee'd in. Haley claimed it was a joke but the other player did not take it as a joke. As for TO I have no issue with him in Dallas right now I think this latest event was blown out of proportion. Now if you ask me can a players action become a distraction to a team then I would say yes a player can become more of a distraction than a help and normally there are many other things taking place within that team where it all starts to snowball. If you take a team who is losing and you have a player disrespecting the coaches and fellow teammates and finger pointing then yes it can be a big distraction to that team.

There's no person that ever saw Haley do any peeing in any car. I'm skeptical.

The point of all this is that teams can win with someone like Haley in the locker room. When they don't - it's just convenient to blame those players. When they do, the issues are just ignored and laughed about later. In reality, neither winning or losing are a result of the "distractions".

These grown men who play football can deal with distractions just like most of us do everyday.

Grown men? I question that at time. Philly Coach tells TO to shut up because he is addressing the team and TO will not keep quite and once he is told to shut up he storms off? Is that being a grown man? Dallas won a SB with Thomas at RB but Landry was not going to tolerate his action any longer so we released him. I'll grant you many things the media claim as being a distraction are over blown but you can have people in your locker room who become a big enough distraction that teams are no longer willing to tolerate it. I also think many of today’s players could not deal with the like of Lombardi, Halas or Landry because they are so damn sensitive to any negative comment

How much of a difference does the no-salary cap back then make in the team Dallas puts together?

Sure Jerry's paying big money now, but I'd have to think that if he didn't have a cap, the situation would be different (no matter who's coaching)
