143 years ago the Union Army of the Potomac was celebrating a war-changing victory at a small town in Pennsylvania while General Grant was accepting the surrender of Vicksburg, Mississippi.

One Union soldier said it was the greatest July 4th of his entire life...

Started the day off at 6:00 am; the grill was cleaned the night before, just finished barbecuing my ribs, two types of sausages, some chicken and some franks. Made potato salad yesterday, and I have the mixed vegetables cooking as I'm writing this post.

Only one thing left to do ...and that's wish everyone a happy 4th of July and invited you all over (first come first served) for some food and fireworks!

Not Eagles fan, Giants, Commanders, or Cowboys style ...just American style!

Not to start an argument -- I'm all for supporting and blessing our vets. However, the 4th celebrates the signing of the declaration of independence. Today is a great day to reflect on what our forefathers had in mind. You can visit the declaration at http://www.archives.gov/national-archives-experience/charters/declaration.html - I'm raising a glass today to Thomas Jefferson, the author of this document.
